Thank you for your kind comments Taylor. It is true to say that we have perhaps more that our fair share of stunning coast line, old buildings, sleepy harbours and big sky. Visitors are always welcome!

Are shots like this possible with my 20D wearing the 18-55 kit glass?

They would be.

And for the original topic. I love mine, still has some benefits over my 50D.

Hi to you all. I got my 20D of a seller on ebay just before Christmas last year. It was a pressie to myself! It is my first DSLR though I have lots of experience in 35mm.
I got two more lenses as well as the standard zoom.
This shot was taken with my 28-135 on the 'macro' position, close up really, in the early morning a few weeks back. 1/60, f5.6 ISO 100. This is the small smooth jpeg from the camera, image size reduced and compressed to post.

I didn't spot the ladybird until I downloaded the images!

Garys1, Did you have your 20D converted? And what did it cost you if I may ask? I am contemplating doing this as well as I will most likely be updating my dslr to a newer model. Thanks and stunning photos here people!

I bought a 30D four years ago and it's been a great camera. I upgraded a year and a half ago to a 40D and kept the 30D for backup and I still use it a fair amount. My 70-200f4L-IS is almost always on it.

I was considering upgrading the 30D but I was disappointed when the 60D was released.

So I ordered a 50D a few days ago for $850.00 before they were all sold out.
The 50D arrived today and the first thing I noticed that the box had been opened and was a bit tattered. I took the camera out and it was covered in dust and it had several scratches and damage to the rubber grip.
I put my spare battery in it and a memory card and found that it had 8093 actuations. I suspect that may have been a rental that accidentally got put back on the shelf.
I phoned the store I ordered it from they were embarrassed and they said send it back for a refund. They did not have another one.

So now the dilemma. The 50D is no longer available so I could save up for a 7D at almost twice the price and sell the 30D keeping the 40D for a backup.
I liked that the extra batteries and memory cards I have would work with the 50D.

The 30D is in new condition with 6991 shutter actuations. Maybe I should just keep it and wait and see what Canon comes out with next.
The price of the 7D will likely drop in the future.

I usually sell my used gear on Ebay. A mint 30D with low mileage should still bring a good price in a year or two.

Terry

Hi Robert,

I have been using the H ISO 3200 recently and getting used to the noise (once I had worked out how to get it). It can be quite arty in the way that grain was.
What does MUA stand for?

^makeup artist.

I still love my 30d, but might upgrade eventually. Perhaps I'll convert it when I do.

Hey guys, I'm currently a student and looking to get a DSLR. The most I had with cameras and photography is a point and shoot. So I'm just looking to get something cheap to learn with. I went skimmed through the threads in this post, and there are some beautiful pictures and obviously, the 20D/30D can still take great pictures. You guys think getting a 20D or 30D is still worth it? Any suggestions are welcomed.

Still a great camera at a very great price. I have seen some 20D's go for as low as $175 from reputable dealers recently.

Just look at the photos above and that should tell you the capabilities of the camera. I think it's a great camera to learn manual exposure etc. and then keep as a second or back up camera. At today's price it sure wont drop anymore in value.
