Are these reputable sellers on ebay or online stores? How much should I look to spend on a 20D or 30D with lens?

You might want to check here on P.O.T.N. in their "For sell" section.

Adorama had one recently for $200, or was it 225? I had a local friend sell his 20D for 175 a few weeks ago. It sold quickly! I wish I had found out about it sooner personally!

KEH has some good deals from time to time too. I dont watch B&H but they might too?

With lens probably at least 300, more likely 400 or so.

Hi. There are an awful lot of good used DSLRs to choose from as people upgrade. I did a fair bit of research before I got my 20D. I initially wanted the 40D, but then worked out that for alot less cash I could get a 20D to get the DSLR experience.
I would say look for a model. whether its a Canon or not, that will just do stills. It's simply less functions to get in the way. If you are moving up from a point and shoot I think that is relevant. Of course, you can point and shoot with a 20D or any of it's contemporaries from the used camera market.
I got mine off ebay, but waited until one came up that was close enough for me to collect. It paid off, because the guy was a real enthusiast and showed me over some of the basics before I left.
Good luck and do plenty of research. In that process alone you will begin to appreciate the DSLR.;)

I like going to see an installation by the British sculptor, Anthony Gormley, on the sea shore at Crosby near Liverpool. It's called 'Another Place' and consists of several cast iron figures, taken from body casts of Gormley himself. They are placed at irregular intervals along the shore, above and below the high tide line, so depending on the time of day it looks different. This shot is taken from the waterbreak and it is nearly high tide.

The 20D is a great camera but it has one thing lacking that made me upgrade to a 40D and that is sensor cleaning. Depending on where you live, dust can be a real PIA if you take higher f stop shots. I don't think there is much difference in the IQ of the 20D and the 40D, they both are great. I have since upgraded to a 5 DII and have to admit that it is not often that my older cameras get action now, even though I think they are more than capable.

I'm still enjoying my 30D and taking some great images with it, though I do eventually plan to upgrade to 7D when the funds are available (probably when the 7D mark II is released :D).

Oh yeah! My 20D is my first DSLR and I had to invest in a sensor cleaning kit very quickly. It is part of the routine. No matter what I do, or how careful I am, the stuff keeps appearing. I presumed it is because it is old. It's due for a clean this week as my last shots at f22 revealed a squiggle and a couple of dots!

Just a random snapshot from a wedding I was second shooting using the 20D as a back up/2nd body.

Shot at ISO 1600 on my 20D with a friend's 50mm f/1.4 at f/1.4.
