I got my 20D back from Canon. According to one of the repair techs, the entire camera was replaced except for the bottom plate, the battery door, and the primary circuit board. So now I have a basically brand new 20D, new shutter, new motor drive, everything. I've got a 40D now too. I'm thinking of getting it converted to IR once I can get my hands on a FF body. Until then, it'll be a trusty backup solution :).

My goodness. What did that cost?

My primary camera is still a 20D. I have actually started doing some work with clients and it has never failed. However since it's a good idea to have two bodies, I am considering going to a 5d. Still the 20D will be an excellent back-up body. Having two bodies will also keep me from having to change lenses so much. I can leave the 70-200 f/2.8 semi-premanently attached to the 20D and use the 16-35 with the 5D. I have a sneaking suspicion that if I get a 5D I might need another lens as the 16-35 might be too wide for everyday use. On the 20D it's perfect.

As usual the opinions from this board are always welcome as to what body I should go with. 20/30D's are so attractive because of price but I don't want to live too far behind.

My 30D is so much better for me that the XT I had. And I liked the XT, I got some pictures with it that I am really proud of.

But the 30D with the two sharp lenses I have is really great for me. It fits my hands so much better than the XT gripped. It's perfect weight even with the heavy Tamron 28-75 lens attached. of course I am not a small guy, so weight isn't a big deal to me.

I do very little pp. I get the shot more often than I did with the XT. I can use higher ISO's more often than before. And noise is easier to get rid of in pp than with the XT.

My next move will be to a 5D but I will not get rid of the 30D and will probably use both equally. Let them come out with the 50/60/70D. I will keep what I have.

the 30d can take equally as good as 40 and 50d but they just have more features.
This doesnt matter to people like me. 30d is still an awesome camera and just as you said I wont be upgrading unless its full frame.

That is why I bought a 50D - as a 30D equivalent but just with a couple of more features. This way, when I do shoot portraits, formals or weddings, I have 2 bodies that I am more than happy to swap between - depending on which lense is on which body!

There is no way that I will get rid of my 30D. It is and will always be my first love...

Ken.

When I went from my XTi to my 30D, I wasnt sure if I was going to like it or not. My XTi was a pretty darn good camera, I had a nice grip, loads of batteries and I knew it inside and out. The first time I held the 30D though, I knew that this was an excellent camera. It fit my hand so much better and the first thing I did was set up my custom functions just the way I like them, haha.

I had an XT and it was a good digital learner for me. But I have read a lot of people who are really in love with that Xti. I ran into a couple here locally who have done some great work with their Xti and wouldn't think of giving it up. It must be one of those special cameras that canon comes up with once in a while.

Oh, I loved my XTi, and it treated me really well, if I could have kept it, I would have.

^^ Yeah, but with that lighting, pose and model, you just about could have used any body.

(Good work)

My 30D will not be removed from the kit anytime soon.

If I find a good enough deal on a 20D/30D I am going to pull the trigger on it so I can have 2 bodies as well.

Picked up a 20D as a backup awhile back and finally got around to actually using it this week. Not bad at all.

WOW, is that guy in your 2nd photo playing the didgeridoo & the guitar at the same time!?!

You should check out some videos of Xavier Rudd on Youtube...and then buy some albums. He is the king of musical multi-tasking as well as playing a didge.
