There must be a simple explanation...though I can't figure it out!
I just got the ST-E2 and have been playing around with it, trying different settings, etc. I am using it to trigger one 550EX off the camera.
When I go to the flash settings on the camera, I cannot get access to second curtain and FEB, for example. I have the camera set up to the shutter priority setting. And I've tried with the ST-E2 on the hotshoe and the flash alone on the hotshoe (with the slave setting "off").
I can, however, set those functions on the flash itself.
Any ideas? What am I missing?
(Is it the flash...I know it's the "older" model....)
Thanks.

The greyed out settings only work when a 580EX II is attached to the camera.

That kinda stinks.
This happened once before...I had to buy a new Canon flash to keep up to date with my Canon camera.
Just curious...at what point does the 550EX not work? That is with which model--20d, 30d? I bought it when I had the 10d.

The 550EX will work with all EOS cameras, even the 40D. What you can't do with the 40D and a few other newer cameras is set the flash settings from the camera. The on-camera flash menu functions on these cameras only work with the 580EX II flash. For the other cameras, the flash settings, other than 2nd curtain sync, have to be set on the flash.

Sorry for the confusion....!
I know it will work...I've been using it since I got the 40d. It's only since I got the ST-E2 that I tried adjusting the settings through the camera's functions. When I said "work," I meant only with respect to the ability to do that.
Sorry....and thanks for your clarification!

In that case, the 550EX along with all the other EX flashes except the 580EX II will "not work" with the 40D, 1DmkIII, 1DsmkIII and the Xsi. :)
