I have 50mm 1.8, pretty good lens, sharp.
Is IQ of 50mm 1.4 worth the extea outlay? Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has compared both.
BTW I use 5D and 350D.

Don't care for the build quality of the 1.8 and it was noisy (sound wise) in contrast to the 1.4. Digital: Canon 5D2,5Dc,40D

As far as I can tell, I have been lucky enough to get a copy that is pretty darn sharp even wide open. It's a far nicer lens and I am delighted to have it in my bag. Canon 6D

While you will probably notice an increase in IQ in some situations, you will notice the much better build and AF in all situations! connecticut wedding photographer

IMHO, the 85 1.8 is a much better choice. 6D, G9, Sigma 50 1.4, Sigma 15mm Fisheye, Sigma 50 2.8 macro, Nikon 14-24G 2.8, Canon 16-35 2.8 II, Canon 24-105 f/4 IS, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, tripod, lights, other stuff.
