Well I am done with Adorama. I have dealt almost exclusively with them over the last few years spending thousands of dollars. I ordered almost $4000 worth of equipment last week from them. After a couple of days they email me to say my 5D kit is backordered for 3 weeks! OK no big deal these things happen. They say I will not be charged until its ready to ship, cool. Well the next day I am charged $1695? So I think maybe they are shipping the rest of my order ($795) but I get no shipment notification. So I call to see whats going on and get the rudest girl i've ever dealt with on the phone and she tells me "oh you want us to ship it?" well yeah you charged me for it. So another few days go by and bam! they charge my card another $700 . Finally I have had enough and call to cancel the remaining order. The guy on the phone is as rude as the previous girl and then hangs up in my face!

I cannot believe that I was treated with such disrespect, I know in the grand scheme $4000 isnt a lot to them but it is a significant amount. Well B&H and Amazon will get my business from now on.

I got my 5D and lens from them a couple weeks ago from them and they told me that my Visa didn't clear.

Call my bank and they told me the problem was at Adorama's end, not mine.

Call Adrama back and they put it through in stages and no problem.

Like you, will go with other folks after that.

I never know that they were that bad with orders like that. I bought a couple of things from them threw amazon, never had a problem. I won't buy big things from them because I live in new york and they charge tax. The one thing that they are bad for is printing pictures, I went to them once and they told me that they could not print them because I did not change the size and something else in photoshop. I went some where else that same day (cameralandny.com) no problems.

Up until recently I've always used and defended them, that is until I tried to make a few separate used purchases. Nothing big mind you but the lack of communication after a few days of pending status they should at least let one know it's already gone so your able to make arrangements to get the product one way or the other.

Funny thing is within about ten minutes of canceling the different orders via email I would receive conformation of canceling it, to bad they can't get it to work the other way also.

It's gonna have to be a really good deal on something to get me to shop with them again.:(

I've always considered them "safe" but not at all "customer friendly"

If you can order point and click via web site and never need to deal with the personnel, I still think it's a safe place to buy, but there reputation re: dealing with customers is pretty bad.

I'll still buy from them when there is a great deal that is exclusive to them,. but my major investments, and regular shopping practices do not bring me ti there door. There "inside" relationship with Pop Photography has it's dubious side effects, but I am intrigued by some of there store brand exclusive stuff. I wonder of the Pop Photography relationship will continue as closely with Herb Keppler's passing.

Fair assessment Cyber. I've had to deal with their customer service firsthand, so the only items I buy from them are the little things which if they mess up, is only a little problem. I went to their store once to buy a case. Never again on that either.

I've posted this in the past:

the two times I placed orders with Adorama they would not ship my order until I called some customer service rep that was assigned to it. Upon calling it was the BS up sale crap. No more Adorama for me and thats been 3 years ago with lots of orders going to B&H.

Well I am done with Adorama.
BIG SNIP.

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble.

Grendel, please post your experience here:

I suggest everyone use that site. Some say it's compromised by resellers who post reviews for themselves, but a bit of careful reading can suss that out.

FWIW, I ordered a bit of used gear from Adorama last year and the order went smoothly.

order a few times from them but small item only (CF cards) and i have to say their communitcation is a bit weird and slow compare to BH. Everytime i order, i just have to leave it up to them to take care the whole process. With BH, you'll receive the confirm order email then another email to confirm that they ship your stuff out. I never receive email like that from Adorama. It just show up at my place.

I think that salesman is called "Meijier" or something like that. He sold me a Lexar card that crashed. Anyway, I've not really dealt with them since. I did order through Amazon from them as they can't do the e-mail scam and even have ordered from Adorama pix as well when they offered a large discount code. The 4x6's were terrible and the 11x14 picture had a hole punched in it while shipping, so I called them and they sent me a replacement that day. Better service than I thought and the11x14 print was very good too.

Having said all that, unless they can offer a great deal that is significantly better than others, I won't buy from them.

Yeah I use resellerraings a lot but as you said you kind of have to watch some of the reviews. Im going to find out the email address of someone in charge at Adorama and let him/her know the whole story. I may get more of the same but its worth a shot.

I will probably use Amazon in the future as I have ordered thousands of dollars worth through them and they have always been great. I ordered a 22" samsung monitor from them this week and because they didnt have it at the warehouse close to me they fedex'd it nextday. You cant beat that for customer care.

I have only bought a few things from Adorama with out problems...few purchases were through amazon. I did have to cancel on order that was purchased through Amazon and was handled quickly via email...so I have no issue with them.

I ordered some Extention tubes from them, They called saying it did not go through so i called back and kind of gave them some crap because they called general mailbox at work and left the message saying this creditcard #........ with expire date...... i almost fell off my chair..

Anyways in the long end of things i ended up paying 3 times through my credit card for this and spent 3 weeks trying to prove i did not get 3 of the same product and ended up having the two charges reversed through Mastercard.
