Got a bit of a choice that I'm tossing around. I want an inexpensive 2.8 lens for my 40d and MKII and can't decided between the two. Both seem to be good lens but I think the Tamron has been compared more to the 24-70L that the Sigma has. I like the 24mm on the Sigma but like the 75mm on the Tamron. I think I will notice a bigger difference on the wider side that on the longer side.

I was in the same position, I ended up going for the Tamron. I like it a whole lot, sharp lens easily available for $270-$280 street with box and papers.

Heard good things about both, but went with the Sigma. It's a steal at just $200.

Indeed, they are both nice. I think the Tamron is just a bit better, even for the extra money though.

tough call. I struggled with it so mujch I just broke down (sold some of my favorite gear) and got the 24-70L. I really love the L, but if I couldn't afford it I would say it depends on your other gear. If you have a lens wider than 28, then I'd go with the tammy. If this is going to be your wide lens, then the siggy is the way to go.

My Tammy 28-75 is definitely one of my favorite lenses. The optics on it are insanely good and the build quality is actually very good for a lens in this price point.

Name is Peter and here is my gear:

Having owned/used both, the Tammy is slightly better optically but the Sigma at $220 BNIB is a killer-deal...and you get those precious 4mm on the wide end. Tough call.

The Sigma is hard to pass up for the price. I like the Tam 28-75 for its optics. My copy is very sharp. I find that I use it 80% of the time compared to my two other lenses.

You will probably like either one.

Ain't nothin but a thing.

Sigma is built MUCH better, and thier service is MUCH better. IQ is about the same, I think the Sigma focus is better. I love my two sigmas, but both are 28-70. The Tamron isn't worth over $100 more, in my opinion.

From everything I've heard from both professional shooters to salesmen whom I've worked with (who are looking out more for quality than putting a buck in their pocket), the Tamron is the way to go. When you compare the Tamron with the Canon on both optics and price, the Tamron is the hands-down winner.
