What the heck is wrong with me, is this normal

I just bought a 1D and i love it. I dont have nearly all the lenses i feel i need. That said, i'm trying to justify financing a 20D through best buys 0% interest plan.

My latest was to "buy it for meghan".

Don't do it.

Interest or no, you'll be making payment for a long time. At some point, you'll figure out that you really should have spent the money on glass. In the meantime, Meghan will have run off with a guy name Lizard Boy from a traveling carnival sideshow, and you'll be stuck with that darned camera payment.

Don't do it, Tim. Why ruin your future for 4 megapixels?

I feel your pain. I'm so tempted to get a 20D, and pass my dRebel onto my girlfriend. So so tempted. I visit the mall, and the 20D is there on BB's display. No case to keep me away from it. It's so tempting....

My only advice is don't go to BB. Don't hold it. Don't take any pictures with it.

All joking aside, which is what this mostly is (i really cant afford to buy another camera right now with another semester of school, x-mas, aniversery/bday for my g/f ugg).

But, i do feel the need for a second body and to be entirely frank; the 1D does not always give me the most flattering images.

I kind of consider it a truck, sometimes you just need a truck to get the work done. It's rough and tough, it can handle anything i throw at it and it's so so powerful.

On the other hand, it would be nice to have a sports car to take out on the weekends.

Something smaller, with nice big 8mp noise free images.

I think i may spring for a 20D sometime late next summer if i dont transfer to a 4 year university. For now, i need a W/A lens (17-40 anyone?)

Okay, all kidding aside....

If photography is going to be your life's work, then you probably can justify almost anyting you want. If this is just a pleasant diversion to get you through some awkward or uncertain stage of your life, save your money. You've been around long enough to know that lusting for photo equipment is a very transient emotion. It isn't long after you satisfy that lust that it starts all over again for something newer/better. You can't beat them. You can't even join them. The best you can ever do is to chase them, so why try.

You have a great camera already. Maybe it isn't perfect for everyday, but it's as close as you need to get at this stage of your life. There are so many other things you probably could use at your age (like an education, for example).

Note: this is based on some of the mistakes I made as a young man (plus a few I've made as a senior citizen).

Get rid of the 1D and get a MKII. All problems solved.

Boom! He dropped the bomb.

For what he could sell the 20D for, and what he was going to pay for the 20D and the price of the MKII down to about $3900 or so, he's pretty darn close to taking it home.

Seriously though.........if you can't afford it, don't get it. The 1D is a very nice camera........if anything, buy a really fast glass for those low light stuff........50 f1.4, 35 f1.4
