I stink at macro...rarely do it.

I had on my 14mm UWA and took my only bee in flight shot...I was mm away from the bee...it's not good but I was happy considering I was using the UWA to catch it ;)

No kidding. I shot this guy with the 100 and full stack of tubes. The slightest breeze messed with my focus so I relied on burst mode, of a dozen or better shots this is the best I got:

Cool shot Becky.

BTW how did you know that some of those shots were manual focus?

Read "The Moment it Clicks" by Joe McNally.

I am, I love, I want to experiment, but; having a resident expert, I get intimidated. Going to just have to blow him off, tell to keep still and let me see what happens, then ask him what he thinks would improve the shots.:confused:

Thanks Jamie, generally that close I use manual focus, I thought it was standard practice and assumed you did. The 100 AF does a good job, but; at a certain point MF seems to be a good finisher.

I did for the apple blossom & maybe the lady bug but not the the bee. I tried the bee but was not fast enough. I have found that the AF hunts a bit too much. I like the lens but I'd have to say that would be its weakness.

yeah, I like to AF but with the macro, I use AF to get me in the general area and then I use MF.

Hello Folks.

Yep, I can attest to how difficult macro is, especially where bugs are invovled. I would say my keeper rate varies on shoots from 10-25% at best. And, this is just the ones where focus is ok, not everything good about it. I was stoked the first time I tried and used my (well, actually Kody's) nifty fifty with my new at the time tubes and got some good shots. But, it was a real sunny day and I was able to get a good DOF and a decent shutter speed.

This is my first ever macro shot, which I really liked. There have been thousands of binned shots since then. :)

actually one of my favorite parts about the 100 is the ability to override AF so easily.

A favourite pose of mine, though not the best IQ, this one was with my 70-200 f/4 and the tubes. Also one of my earliest macro shots.

Another fav from the same time with the same lens combo.

Do you know how hard it is to not look at the screen?
At home hubby will ask, 'WTH are you doing?' as I have my eyes covered with one hand and rapidly scrolling with the other

Jamie, I will have to look at your shots from home later. I don't do C&C (because I don't know nuttin') but if I see something I will say something ;) Deal?
