Don't be - you got thar focus great.

Now try BIF shots, they're the hard ones to get.

A crap one:-

How about this butterfly? Even though there's nothing sharp about the entire shot, for some reason I liked it.

I stink at macro...rarely do it.

I had on my 14mm UWA and took my only bee in flight shot...I was mm away from the bee...it's not good but I was happy considering I was using the UWA to catch it ;)

You did that with a 14mm? WOW!!!

BearLeeAlive wrote in post #5143469 (external link)
Hello Folks.

Yep, I can attest to how difficult macro is, especially where bugs are invovled. I would say my keeper rate varies on shoots from 10-25% at best. And, this is just the ones where focus is ok, not everything good about it. I was stoked the first time I tried and used my (well, actually Kody's) nifty fifty with my new at the time tubes and got some good shots. But, it was a real sunny day and I was able to get a good DOF and a decent shutter speed.

This is my first ever macro shot, which I really liked. There have been thousands of binned shots since then. :)

That's why a lot of macro (bug) shooters use some type of dual flash rig or ring lite... To be able to get the higher shutter speeds and good DOF at the same time.

Do you know how hard it is to not look at the screen?

I don't usually do spiders, but this one was cool looking and doesn't look all that spiderish...but still a rose by any other name...it is still a spider. You really should look at it though, it is cool.:D

'tis a neat shot John.

I bought the twin head macro flash at Christmas, but have not had a chance to really use it yet. No bugs around here for a month or two yet. :(

Another great macro aid is good support. A tripod is preferred, but I use a monopod most, almost on every shot.

Ask away, perhaps it's something common to CS2...

Another good trick for garden macro shooting is to use a handy garden cane to stead yourself with. Just jam it in the dirt and hold it close to the camera.

This is what I used to get this (at 1/20 shutter speed)
