CAT! Sorry I missed you... Only thing of interest I've done is go to an air show in Riverside this weekend.

Nice rant Pete. Question though, I saw your focal length was 135mm....how close were you to the birds?

About 0.9m (minimum focus distance). These robins are real cocky. They don't mind people getting pretty close to them.

These shots were nice too. If you donated some cash...would they let you take shots inside...for documentary purposes? Give them a copy and you have some too.

BTW, I took that shot using the Live View on the 40D. Actually, I took a number of shots today using the LV. Have you used that feature yet?

I have, a couple times. There was one shot I took using live view that I posted here. It really is a nice feature for SLRs. Provided, of course that you use it right.

Did you notice Zane's new title? He's been naughty.

I often wonder if people who are potential visitors to the board come here, read the titles, then run, screaming.

I use a PC, and I don't have a single icon on my desktop. I hate (ok, dislike very muchly) them! I don't even have a "My Computer" icon. Nothing. Not a one...
Howdy, Kit!

What drives me nutzo is in the days of XP and Vista, people insist on using the classic start menu, placing My Computer, My Documents and Network on their freaking desktop. I'll be in the middle of something, and need to open a file, look at something, or check a log as the app is running, and I'll always have to hit the reveal desktop icon (provided they haven't also hidden the quicklaunch toolbar, which likely they have. Then I have to minimize everything, unless that one app has an active dialog, then I'll do Start->Run->C:\<enter> and browse to the location I need to be in. It's much simpler to click start, then Computer (or <Username>;)

OR... pick up your monitor, put on your scanner face down, scan and treat the resultant scan as any other jpg.

That's not right. Everyone here has a camera. You set your shutter speed to as close to the sync speed as possible (This is critical for CRT, LCD it doesn't matter at all), snap the picture, adjust the levels in ACR, load it in photoshop and resize the image.

My computer would drive you nutzo too, then. I use classic mode. The only way to get to My Computer or Network is to reveal desktop. I completely eliminated My Documents, so you can't get to that at all without opening Windows Explorer and navigating your way to it...

In fact, there are only three icons on my desktop: Recycle Bin, My Computer and Network. The only reason those three are still there is because I can't get rid of them. So, I just hide all desktop icons anyway so I don't have to see them.

Hey all.

Nice rants on flowers, zoos, Christopher and zoo, tulips, rail yards, motorcycles and boredom.

Good to hear from Cat. Real cool on the egret rookery. Can't wait to see pictures.

Lots of giggles this morning reading the banter. This one made me LOL.

And that new title thingy.:lol::lol::lol:

Got home too late last night to catch up and post. After the seminar one of the guys rented a suite and we had a bit of an after glow party. Hawk411 set up his lights, Curt set up the Sky Ports and several tried the stuff out, asked lots of questions, etc. Hawk411 showed us the "clamshell" light set up and several played with that.

I learned quite a bit at both the seminar and playing with the lights. The seminar itself has a lot of good points and stuff to ponder. He is very good at saying these techniques are how he likes to shoot and are "guidelines" and not necessarily what everyone else will like. He did point out some basic compositions such as full light, etc. that I didn't know before. The only thing I didn't like, even though I knew it would be there before going in, like many speakers he taughts his sponsors products throughout. It is a huge marketing tool, understandable, but I just don't like it, just a personal opinion.

I did buy a 14 inch Target. Will let you know how I like it after I've used it. Haven't watched any of the DVD yet. Besides some lighting and composition techniques, I took note of a lot of different poses and props that I will try using for some senior pictures.

Got to get ready for work now. Next few days will be busy for me during the day, will check in if I can otherwise I'll see you all in the evenings.:D

Have a G'MAE all.

Thanks. They're mostly just snapshots, but I wanted to get something on my web site with pictures of Minnie. We'll be heading to Northern California in two weeks, and I wanted to test the waters with her to see how she would do on a fairly long car ride first.
