Ok, so I read an article about using corn syrup on acrylic as a way to shoot flowers. I figured it was simple enough  to give it a shot.
Needless to say, after wrestling my makeshift studio into place, it took another 20 minutes or so to get Daisy seated properly to commence.
I was happy with what I was seeing on the LCD, but did not realize until I popped them onto the 'puter that I had reflections of my lights in my refractions of my flowers
Obviously, some practice is in order. Judge for yourselves;
The basic corn-syrup refraction

IMAGE: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/miss-pix/Stills/0804_refractionsandlight002.jpg
Tried something a little different here
IMAGE: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/miss-pix/Stills/0804_refractionsandlight003.jpg
And then decided to go a little 'out there' for this one
IMAGE: http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k259/miss-pix/Stills/0804_refractionsandlight001.jpg

Anyone who can shed some light (lol, get it? light? rofl I crack myself up) on how to keep the light out of my corn syrup, I would appreciate it!

Terri these are cool and the light reflection, IMHO, adds to #1. Like the effect of swirling your corn syrup.

I'm guessing your lights are behind you, what if you came in from underneath the acrylic and an angle with the lights? Or do you have anyway of using natural light through a window?

Sorry, was posting while you were. I'm thinking you need to get the acrylic above the lights. KWIM?

TERRI! Those are way cool!! Tell us more about how you did it!

:D Thanks!
Ingredients:
Camera
Tripod
Acrylic or glass
Flowers
Something to put acrylic or glass on (author recommended 18" or so off the ground)
Corn syrup
Light Source

Through trial and error I got the camera set where it would focus on the corn syrup and not the flowers, then just messed with angles and syrup :)
The little article (more like little note) is in Aprils Popular Photography on page 10.

I wanted to use natural light, but today kinda sucked for that. Grey and drippy.
I hadn't thought of using the lights underneath. I'll give that a try, thanks!

And the author of the note said any light source, could be desk lamps even. I was using my little lights from the light box kit hubby got my for Christmas.

You know, I like the AWB and the WB Camera setting better. I think I just like colors more on the warm side than the cool.
And great photo's on your shelf :D
