Thank you SO much for posting that! I haven't had time to peruse the forum at all lately except for our little corner. I would have missed it.

Me either Terri. I feel ya.
I'm still working at catching up. I do a few pages or so when I get a few minutes. Right now, I'm still over 1000 post back, LOL!

But I HAVE to catch up. I do. It's a sickness I have.

I was a bit nervous. I've never been on a boat before. ANY kind. And to do it the very first time, at night, through the bay, with WAVES and stuff... took some guts.
But once I got out there... HOLY COW! It was the highlight of my trip, hands down. Absolutely fantastic.

If you go to Carrows again, tell Crystal I love her!

We didn't go back. We decided to have the free breakfast at the motel.

I want to go back and follow the stream behind the dam a little further to find the other abandoned ruins down there.

You mean these?

BTW, apparently Minnie and Tupper decided they are tired of taking turns laying down in the crate. I just glanced over there a few minutes ago and found this:

Cute.

Actually, it was pretty bright there yesterday. I came home a little sunburned on my arms and face. I didn't think the sunlight was that intense while I was there, but I've been surprised like that before on hikes.

A little? We came back day-glow... It was so bright out there today that at one point I wanted to run my aperture down to 2.8 for shallow depth of field and my shutter speed was 1/1600. That was at ISO 100 with a polarizer on...

The dam was originally called the Big Horn Dam, or something like that. Named for the big horn sheep that once roamed the area (and apparently sometimes still do -- John saw one in the area once). According to a sign near the dam, it was later improved by the Barker & Shay Cattle Company. I'm guessing that's where the new name came from.

The dam was originally built by Barker & Shay to provide water for cattle. After ranching died out, the dam was enlarged by homesteader Bill Keys, who named it the Big Horn Dam. At the top of the dam is an inscription in his handwriting dated 1949 that calls it the Big horn Dam. The Big Horn ram I saw in 2006 was less than a half mile from the dam.

The concrete watering trough below the dam (in the first shot above) is inscribed "Wm. Keys, 1939."
