Nah, she's going to want to sleep with you...

Both companies offer the issue knife. Victorinox makes the better tools, IMO. Their (working!) can opener hooked me.
That's a Victorinox. The flash drive removes for air travel, and they have a model with no blade, also fror air travel.
IIRC the government issued contracts to both of them. ISTR that Victorinox also made issue knives for the West German army.
I don't ever remember the Navy issuing me a knife, except for diving. The one I got was a typical combat knife which I never took in the water because it would have rusted. I bought and used my own stainless steel diving knife. I still have both of them. I remember the electricians on the ship got a cool little knife with a blade and a screwdriver.

I used to have a Leatherman type thing, but I don't think it was that brand. I carried it for a year or two until it fell apart. It was much bigger and bulkier than the SA knife I have, though. For what I use it for, I prefer the smaller size. When I need a sharp knife, though, I use a Buck folding knife that I also carry. This is the sharpest pocket knife I've ever had. Except for the one time I sliced my thumb open with it while I was about 15 miles deep in the wilderness, it's been great to have around.
I stopped carrying a letherman-type tool because of the weight and the increasing number of places that won't let you in if you have something like that. I carry a folding knife now, but I'm careful about where I take it. A couple of years ago I was prohibited from taking my old C-ration can opener into the county fair because the security guard decided it was a weapon. That was the same year they prohibited off-duty police and sheriff's deputies fron carrying weapons into the fair also. There was a big flap in the media about it and law enforcement county-wide boycotted the fair that year. They've since changed the policy.

I get that extra paycheck next month. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, though.
Thing about being on a pension. I don't get an extra paycheck in a long month. When they say "fixed income" they mean it...

I am a true believer in mutt/pound rescues so we would probably go that route.

Yup, we'd go that way too.
1) It's nice to do something for a dog that's been abandoned.
2) It's cheaper than breeder-stock.
The only downside is it's difficult to guage any psycological problems the dog might have until you get it home for a few days/weeks.
It's nice that everyone here seems to be of the same mind when it comes to dogs. We would never go to a breeder. We got Buddy from the county shelter and all three of our cats came from rescue organizations as well. If I wanted a purebred dog, then I'd go to a rescue group for that breed.

She gets a good amount if indoor attention, too. After our morning walk, she gets her treats, then we usually wrestle on the floor a bit and practice her trick ("shake hands"). She also sleeps with me. If I'm on the bed, so is she. I really like that. Ashley never did that, except when we were traveling. At home, when I went to bed, Ashley would hop up to snuggle for about two or three minutes, then she'd hop down and go to her own bed.
Buddy sleeps on his own bed right next to ours, but I'm sure he'd be up on our be if he could get there. Our bed is a bit high so little stubby-legs can't get up there. It's probably just as well... With the two of us and the three cats, there just isn't room for a 50 pound dog.
