I was listening to a podcast and they had Will Crockett talking about TTL flash.

They have free pdf download Flashfacts from his seminar if you are interested it is here

http://www.shootsmarter.com/downloads/FlashfactsGUIDE.zip (external link)

But to the questions

He says ttl is pretty much useless at anything over f8. Anyone have opinions if so or not?

He also had good and bad lens choices.

"Primes are terrrrrific!

Non-shifting zooms are always best for OCF

F2.8 and faster - no F4 lenses :("

Question is if TTL is good at F8 and lower why not an F4 lens(like 17-40 F4)?

That's just one man's personal preference. Macro shooter often shoot f11-16 with ETTL flash. I hardly shoot below f4 in studio setting, so a f1.2 prime is not that useful in that situation.

Crocket is full of crap.

That PDF document is full of overgeneralized, unsubstantiated garbage. It will confuse and mislead people more than help them.

One man's opinion. He finally gets into his element on page 5 - that's the one to really pay attention to.

I agree with your there, Curtis. AAMOF, I had posted a similar reply earlier this morning but it got wiped off when the server was shut down for maintenance. But one of the other points I made was that not only did he generalize everything but some of the things he pointed out were probably applicable to some camera brands and not to others.
