I'd like to figure out how to make this template. I saw this on http://www.instylecards.com/index.shtml (external link) great site!

I've made a 5X7 page. New layer change to pink. How do I get an image placed like over a color . I tried Free Transform, but that distorts my pic.

Thanks for your help!

You should know what size your image component of the file is. Resize it to that size in your separate file and then drag that layer on top of your pink layer. If it does not fit you can use free transform but you have to have the shift key depressed to maintain the original perspective otherwise it will distort your image.

From looking at the outlay that you want to accomplish it does not have the same aspect ratio of most of today's cameras. If this is the case then you would have to crop to size or make a selection to size in your original.

Your layer order should be (from the bottom up)
Pink layer

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

do transform> scale and hold the shift key and it should not distort. you will want to start with a crop that is the right dimensions.

Thanks for the help. I want to make a 5X7 print of this. Here's where I'm at:

I crop my pic to a 5X7 size (I think that's my mistake)
I start a new layout @ 5X7.
Add pink layer.
Move image over layer.
Try to resize while holding shift(I knew this)
At this point my image either takes up the whole layer or has to be distorted to fit the way I want.

I'm gonna keep the same file size and not crop to 5X7 before I move it over.

Let's see what hgappens

i think that is the mistake . i don't know the exact ratio, but i think you will need to crop it into a large rectangle and then scale down with the transform.

Try it this way ...

1. Define a new canvas to whatever size you want first.

2. Copy your picture onto a new layer.

3. On a new layer set up your pink area, various ways of doing this.

4. Select your picture layer and use Transform>Scale to get your image to the size you want. Don't worry if your picture is bigger than the canvas when resized, it will be OK in the final document.

5. Use the move tool to position the image to where you want.

Hope this helps.
