Hello,

I'm looking for a backpack that can comfortably fit a 20D with grip, a 70-200mm f/4L, a Sigma 10-20, one other small lens, and some other small bits and pieces. I like to keep the lens hoods reversed on the lenses.

I'd like for the backpack to be comfortable for hiking/walking around all day. I'm pretty tall (6'3"-6'4") so that might be a factor too.

I'm hoping to not spend a fortune, so all help and suggestions are appreciated!

Most camera backpacks are pretty much made for carrying just camera gear and don't often have room for any of the essential items (lightweight windbreaker, snacks, first aid kit, etc). The Alpha by Naneu Pro has a compartment to fit all the gear you're mentioning, as well as an upper compartment for other items that I mentioned, in addition to large exterior packets. It also has an excellent, adjustable harness system as well. I bought one a short time ago and paid about $90 + shipping for it. It also has a tripod mount. Very durable too. Here's a link to get you started in your search:

I have the Tamrac Adventure 7, which fits a 40D with 17-85 attached, 70-200 f/4 (just fits), 430EX, and probably has room for one more smaller lens, if I rearrange filters, etc. It also has a top section where you can stuff a windbreaker, guide book, and drink. If (who am I kidding, I mean "when") I get more gear, I'll probably look for something larger, but this works pretty well right now.

There is always the Canon one as well. It is very inexpensive but probably would only carry your camera gear.

I think the Naneu Pro Alpha is probably the second best bang for your buck and if you need extra space... it is probably the best choice.

I was looking for a pack back in December. I too am tall, 6'4". Every pack I tried was too small.

I ordered the Burton Zoom pack and it was way too small. So I did more research and ordered the Dakine Poacher: http://www.dakine.com/snowboard/packs/snow/poacher/ (external link)
and the Dakine Camera Block.

The Dakine Poacher fits great. And it carries a lot of stuff: my 5D, 17-40mm, 100mm macro, 70-200 L, and 400mm 5.6, 580 EX, 550 EX, and an IR converted Digital Rebel, plus filters, gloves and light jacket + a water bottle. I strap my Bogen 3021 to the outside (or a monopod would also fit).

The access is from the back and the top. So if you take off the pack, unzip the access cover to gain entry to the camera block. Not everything will fit in the Camera Block but there is room on top of it for storage and access from the top of the pack. I typically place lenses in the camera block and flashes and bodies on top in protective cases. The nice thing about access from the back
is that the part of the pack that goes against you stays clean.

The pack has an internal frame, waist belt and chest belt. I usually place a light jacket under the Camera Block in the bottom of the pack. The Camera Block fits real snug in the back back. Nothing about the pack says camera equipment inside, unless a strapped on tripod gives it away.
