Hi,

I am in possession of a Canon G9 camera. I love it, but I want to buy a new D-SLR camera. I prefer Canon/Nikon, but any other brand will do.
Can anyone of you recommend me a good D-SLR camera?
I also needed recommendations on lenses and filters that are mountable on the camera recommended as well.
How are Zeiss lenses (as in Sony cameras) compared to Canon lenses?

Can you provide an indication of your budget and the type of photography you would like to do?

Note that this is a Canon forum, so no other brand is likely to be recommended.

There is huge variety in lens quality and function, not just between manufacturers, nor even within the range offered by one, but also there is variation in quality among instances of the same lens, and there is even variation in the variation seen in different lenses, so what you ask, while eminently reasonable, is more likely to open a debate than give you helpful information immediately.
To simplify things a little, all Canon EOS cameras accept lenses with EF mounts (or their equivalent from 3rd party manufacturers: Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc.) Some EOS bodies also accept EF-S lenses (or their equivalent). Any other type of lens mount will require an adaptor, and some cannot be adapted at all, some are very difficult to adapt and lose significant function, and some are relatively trivial to adapt.

Budget is about 6000 Euros. Photography: mostly dark situation in plain nature.
I am just a beginner but fanatical photographer, so any good information is welcome.
I don't have many hobbies, so I can spend alot of money on it. My other hobby is even more expensive: travelling (combining with photography of course).

Wooooo - €6k - now that's what I call a budget!

Hang onto your seat - there'll be a bunch of people here in a moment to help you spend it.

Gee - where to start -

EOS 5D + EF 24-105/4L + EF 50/1.4 + EF 16-35L + EF 70-200/2.8L IS+ 580EX flash (roughly €4.5k taking US price -> Euro)

That would be my (essentially) unlimited budget "beginner's" kit.

... or - you could go the "prime" route:
5D + 35L + 85L + 135L + 50/1.4 + 100/2.8 macro + 580EX @ about the same price.

Since you're just getting started, you might want to get a used 1D Mk II or 30d, and one lens. If you find yourself in situations where you wish you had ___________ (insert lens here), then you'll have the money for it. Otherwise it seems to me like a rush buy that you might regret.

30d + 24-105 f/4 = ~1800 USD?
mkII + 24-105 f/4 = ~3100 USD?

No matter what your initial budget is, I'd still start conservative until you understand what you're doing. I'd sugggest the 40D and the 24-105L. This is a great camera to start and a lens with a range you'll be comfortable with coming froma P&S world. When you start to understand the benefits of a DSLR, then consider other lenses and accessories which match your shooting style.

Gear: Canon 1Ds MkII, 35L, 85L, 135L, 24-105L

5D + 24-105 IS L, maybe add a 50 1.4, and save the rest for later when you have a better idea of what you're doing. Buy the best, buy once, and grow as a photographer with it.

Moving up from a point and shoot, any Canon DSLR will be more camera than you can handle to begin with, so you can't go wrong with anything.

Three and a bit years down the line... That's serious consideration!

Enjoy.
