Hi All

I went to the Top Hat test day yesterday and met up with Cadwell & JuZ, as JuZ said in his earlier thread it was wet & miserable with gusting winds but here are - so far ? - the best of the bunch for me. Nothing really exciting but a real "blast from the past" with all that old metal pushing hard. I have a few more worth a look but here are my allowed eight.

#1 Austin A35

#2 Lotus Cortina

#3 FIAT being chased down by a Ginetta

#4 Falcon being chased by the Lotus Cortina

#5 Another Cortina & view

#6 Renault (not sure which model but it is rear engined form 1965)

#7 Hillman

#8 Tatra (certainly unusual to me)

Hi Gary

Yes, it did remind me that as Goodwood is only about an hours drive I should be going more often - on that note the Thruxton 'season' starts very soon if not already!

Also, that I really need to save for something like the Sigma 120-300 (see JuZ's thread !) or the Canon 100-400 IS, very much a case of budget and the various subjects I like to take when I can/do (wildlife & (motor)sports & my currently personal preference to avoid the need for a tri/monopod. My muscle tone has changed as I age and I have foud IS very usefull i.e. handholding big/heavy at low shutter speeds is getting more difficult :(

Thanks For Looking

Seeing JuZ's very tight image of the FIAT 600 prompted me to review mine again ~ you can see were standing fairly near each other for many shots ~ this one like most (though not all) of the above has been cropped (note the lefthand edge is not cropped, it is that tight just in the frame) a little and for my taste I should have lowered the shutter speed a tad (too little wheel blur!) but the more I look at it I think has something to offer.

Nice shots, it's great to see an A35 and Fiat 500 racing

Nice images, Mr Box. That orange Tatra is just too cool! One thing though, I notice that many of the cars "faces" are soft, were you focusing on the drivers?

Great images of cars that I remember from my childhood. I think the Renault in No.6 is a Dauphin. It's been a long while since I've seen one of those on the road or track.

Hi Paul

Yes, from my childhood/youth as well and now you ID the Renault as a Dauphin that does sound familar :D

I see what you mean!!!!! Not sure of the cause bu the odd thing about the Tatra is that it is like the front end is bouncing ~ most if not all the shutter speeds were higher than I normally like to use but one thing I did change in my tech (compared to the first outing with the combo at Lydden Hill late year) was using all focus points and AI Servo but a mix of single shot and 3fps. At Lydden I used the higher 6.5fps.

I need to run some comparisons to tweak my technique?

:)

Indeed we were standing fairly close, although my tight shot of the Fiat 600 (external link) was shot at 500mm and wasn't cropped ;) the tightness of a shot is down to taste though, most subjects need room to "move" to look good, yours being over to the left side works as it's moving to the right :)

, thanks. I thought you were using the 120-300 but boy that 500 is razor
