I am doing a project with the idea of disguises on my mind, however weirdly i plan to be wearing the disguises when taking my photographs, this will enable me to get into areas where the public generally wouldn't be allowed.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of any other photographers that do this??

Cheers

You could dress up like a Man U player and get some great action shots from the middle of the field!!!

On a more serious note, using your example of a builder, it seems to me that if you showed up to a construction site dressed in appropriate clothing and with the right attitude you might get pretty good access. Of course the camera might raise few questions...

I've worked a bit of construction, and most folks who show up dressed the part are not paid much attention to.

Canon 80D and kit zooms. Also 50mm 1.8 and 10-16mm.

I used to dress up as Spiderman and scale buildings. Haven't done so since the court order though. If it weren't for the real Spiderman ratting me out, I'd still be getting great aerials.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Well i think ill end up taking a compact as opposed to dSLR!

I believe the building site will give the best access, however i would like to be able to get into police situations, however this is really breaking the law!

just act like you belong there and you should be fine, however keep in mind that if it's a small construction site all the guys probably know each other.

I dress differently when doing street photography. If I want to sit in a doorway for a while waiting for a shot, I want to blend in and not look like a photographer waiting for a shot. I don't know if you consider that a disguise but I dress differently than I normally would if I were walking with my wife.

Yeah i am quite good at pretending, however i think it would be interested what would happen if i arrived with a clipboard and the camera! See if they all started work quicker!

Why what would you wear when sitting in a doorway??

I was thinking now bright colours, possibly khaki or black...

I dress like any other slacker on the street; ripped jeans, old sneakers, wool hat. For me, that is a disguise as I wouldn't wear that normally downtown and I do consider what I'm wearing before I go out and shoot. I suppose everyone's streets are different, but here, that is what you'd wear to blend into the streets I shoot.

Hey Hoff do you have to use the disguise because people recognise you from Nightrider and Baywatch?

I heard of someone making a very official-looking fake ID and was able to get access to many "restricted" areas. I'm not sure what the ID said, though.

I see Hoff running down Robson quite often being chased by screaming Japanese girls. I try to run a block for him but they just knock me into the street.

Problem is ... if you sneak the photos. (take them without permission) You won't be able to legally use them for much. At least to make money. I would casually approach the foreman...supervisor of the job and ask him if I could take some pictures for ........ Make sure you wear clothing that is reasonable. I don't think it has to be a disguise.
If you want to go completely candid. Just walk in and start taking pictures. If questioned, just say you were assigned to get some photos for the owners.
