I agree with that. I was thinking more of when we first entered into the dslr field...it would have been nice to have some unbiased comparisons.

I used the sample pics on dpreview. Canon just looked better to me than the nikon shots.

I used dpreview too...even cnet....it was the guy at the-digital-picture.com that swayed me...and really when I came into the whole thing, canon was the way to go. The nikon digitals noise factor would have pushed me over the edge.

Right now it's a fierce competition though....it'd be nice to not see people who were discontented or mal-affected giving reviews

It was even easier for me. When I got my first DSLR, the 300d was the only one I could ever imagine spending money on :-D

Wow, I just made a batch file to process some audio files for the video I have been working with lately. I feel rusty at that stuff :-D.

I didn't go with the guys today...my ankle swelled after yesterday (and I did a tiny bit of climbing but nothing hard or abnormal). I wonder how long it'll take for a inverse high ankle sprain to fully heal.

I wish there was a resource that did that. An unbiased one. Then the need for that type of comparisons wouldn't be necc. Most magazines or people who report about the comparisons are biased towards one or the other (sponsors or free gear have a tendency to make one biased). But someplace to go to get the comparisons would be wonderful!

Pete wrote in post #5167369 (external link)
There's no real comparison apart from the freedom of choice. There's equipment on both sides of the fence that can produce equally pleasing results.

Sometimes there's a cost for an unbiased opinion. Years ago there was a magazine devoted strictly to Touring motorcycles. I used to subscribe faithfully because it was the only magazin devoted to my type of riding. I guess they got tired of being accused of "biased" reviews because they all of a sudden started refusing to take paid advertising and instead rely entirely on subscriptions for revenue. After that the quality of the magazine took a nosedive. They went from a nice full color magazine to a thin, black and white newsletter type publication. Needless to say, I cancelled my subscription and I suspect many others did as well. I don't know if they are still in production.

*cough* *cough*

I got a cold. :( It started and hit me yesterday. Coughing a lot, a bit warm, horse, hurting throat etc. Ugh. Mainly coughing. Need to rest properly and lots of fluid as I'm off to Stockholm tomorrow. If I have high fever I won't go though. But I think it's mainly the coughing that's the big issue. ugh.

Sorry to hear that...

Claire, what's that neat sailing ship you have in Gothenburg? My wife was watching th eice skating being braodcast from there and I noticed it during one of the breaks.

That's no good. It could take a while depending on what you are doing with it :).

I was kinda thinking about going down today. While I feel WAY WAY better than I have, I am still not perfect and don't want to risk getting sick again. I do want to do something today though, maybe a short trip around the local park for some eagle watching.

I bought some tulips yesterday (cut) so I think I'll go photograph them.

Ali got some nice purple ones recently. I'll have to snag the pick of the bunch soon and she how much of a train-wreck I can do with the lighting...

I did a few photo shops today... I looked at the price of tripods and the 40D

I can buy the 40D on the net for 1400$. Most of the shops were selling it for 1800$. In one of them, it was 2000$!!! How can they hope that I would buy it there?!?!

It's just not the same ;). I wonder if our daffodils have come up yet... mum always plants them a bit too deep so they are always a bit later than everyone else's.

Anybody here have Roses? I've got some in the front yard and i know absolutely nothing about taking care of them. If someone could point me to a good website with information about rose care, I'd appreciate it.

I think they pretty much take care of them selves, there's pretty hardy little buggers.

Just watch out for black spot (a fungus). When you get that, just spray them with black spot spray.
