I just read some thread on a Swedish forum. A girl asked where people go for inspiration on portrait photography. One guy gave the names Jock Sturges, Mona Kuhn and Sally Mann. Then suddenly someone yelled paedophile due the nature of those photographer's work. The poster said "Don't look at those people's work, it's disgusting" and now there's a bunch of people saying the same. I of course had to take a look.

I had heard about Sturges but never seen his work. And well, I may be very liberal and especially when it comes to nudes, but his pics are kinda disturbing. The technical matters I could see, but the models are waaay too young to be posing nude in the kind of poses they do.

You can expect a healthy pay cut as Ken's minion!

I heard that Kens' Minions had to pay him for the privilege.

I don't know about Wool, he's gonna be loads better at this stuff than I would be, but I just experiment. Tripod, small flashlight, shutter release, dark room and a subject. Set the ISO low, aperture to whatever you want to create the DOF, and a shutter speed for a few seconds. Turn off any lights making it black, or at least really dark, engage shutter and for about a second, lightly touch the subject with the flashlight.

On the flashlight, sometimes it's cool to add a "snoot". I make one out of some black poster board, roll a small bit of it up into a cone and stick it onto the end of the flashlight. This makes the light more direct and concentrated so you can direct it better and you won't have so much "spill".

There is no right or wrong way. It's all about doing something different. I took 62 shots. Around 8 were worth keeping.

My egg shots seemed to have a lot of spill... So I may have to try the snoot deal and see how that goes. I found all my boys Star Wars Burger King Kids meal toys... I need to have some FUN with those! ;) Just in honor of Gear Wars! hehehehe

But the painting with light fascinates me.... I espcially liked your crayon shots Puddle!

Ice.

I sprayed it with a mister and put it in the freezer. Every 30 mins or so, I'd sreay more on and close the freezer again.

I wanted to get an aged stalactite look, but it came out looking bad.

I didn't realise how bad until I proudly posted up shots of my new experiment.

It got laughed at for being osbscene....

As did

Crazy colored stonework...Guess at some point in history this was in vogue in the western North Carolina/Tennessee border region. Buildings with this funky looking material is found at several different border crossings.

Crap... beta for LR is out... I was hoping they would wait a while longer before coming out with 2.0 but I guess aperture has pushed them over... I guess I ought to start saving for a new LR in a while... Looks like August is when they are planning on bringing out the new version... Get out there try the beta and give them feedback :)
