There was a photo on the cover this month or last month that really displayed the concept of what the Chief et al are talking about.

If that was the big fire of a couple years back, it was a real disaster. I remember hearing the Pioneer Town was overrun.

Those are fine shots, Lisa. You're learning about some of the pitfalls of shooting in the desert. Haze, strong shadows, enormous vistas, difficult to establish meaninful perspective.

You did very well, especially in light of your extremely limited experience shooting in the desert. Keep up the good work.

where we live, there's always something to lead your eye into the photo...while it doesn't seem like it should be different shooting in the desert, it really is. At least to me.

And the fire missed Pioneer town. It's burnt all around it but it did not hit the town...you can see the Joshua Tree next to the train wasn't touched but the train was gutted and the trees beyond it were burnt. It's weird up there...dead J.Trees everywhere but where the town stands.

John those shots you posted were very instructive. Makes me glad I'm planning on being there early in the morning...I loved the sunset and night time shots too.

Wasn't one of the railcars that was destroyed from the original Wild, Wild West?

that was the only railcar anywhere in the area...and like I said, it wasn't in the town so I have no info on it.

According to the fire data reports...there were two rail cars destroyed in the fire...I don't know if they hauled one off or what....seems like at the time of the fire there was a story about one of the railcars being very famous and it had either just been or was in the middle of a very expensive overhaul. I'll have to call my office in NY and see if the staff librarian has the whole story on it.

I wonder if this was the one. You can tell on the outside that it was very elaborately made...lovely detail on the ironwork...

Would you like me to recommend a camera bag?

domke?

It's a kind of camera bag. Real heavy duty canvas type. Jon is somewhat of an evangelist when it comes to Domke.
