Well, Lisa will be happy to know that the problems she had with my 50 f/1.2L were not her imagination. I played around with it for a while tonight, and discovered that it back-focuses badly. I did some comparative tests with it and my 50 f/1.4, and the less expensive lens is absolutely perfect. For the first time in my life, I took a couple pictures of focus charts just to verify it, and it was pretty surprising.

I'll post the pictures in a couple minutes.

Looks like a trip to Irvine.

Oh that's a bummer Chief. Honestly, I thought it was just me...it's a pretty heavy combo (it and the M3) and I thought I just wasn't holding it still enough for the shallow DOF. :(

Thanks Queen Meany Head. You need to be nice to me. I just paid $1405 (aka almost an 85L) to Uncle Sam. I'm still hurting. In fact, I am typing this from under my desk.

okay, that's a real bummer too...I suppose I can be nice (but really you wouldn't like me nice...I'm waaaay boring) if I have to ;)

So, I am going to purchase an array of slide film to shoot... Anyone has any recommendations?

I was thinking some Astia 100, 1 roll of Kodachrome 64 (it just has to be done ;) ), some velvia...

I've used Kodachrome for a long time before slowly changing over to Fujichrome... If I were to buy a few rolls to have fun, I'd probably take something more "exotic" ;-)a

Kodachrome 25 was the warm beast. I loved that stuff. Ektachrome 64 was a nice cool alternative. Used to get some great stuff from Seattle Film Works...they canned and processed movie film as both slides and negatives...spectacular color reproduction.

One of my wife's cousins worked there for several years. They really did some great work (and anything we sent in through family connections was dirt cheap). :D

I used to like them because you could get prints and slides from the same roll.

Mooooo Clair, mooooo Didier.

Didier, I noticed some nice posts in the last day or two using your 100-400 with the new 1.4 extender. I take it you are happy with the Tamron?

Moo Mike

Yes, I'm VERY happy with the combo. If you feed it with enough light, it works great. I have taped the pins to have AF. No problem there ;-)a

This shot is a heavy crop, but quite promising...

I also tried a few with stacked TCs (Tamron + Kenko). It's more difficult, but workable.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that the Tamron and Kenko TCs come out of the same factory. Apart from the color and name written on them, they are exactly the same. All the way down to caps, packaging, ...
