Hello,

Ok, If I were to shoot at the beach a family of 4. What clothing would you recommend?

I have seen people dress in white, but I don't know the thinking behind it. I believe it may have something to do with looking traditional and clean.

My first thought would be to throw some color into the picture with different shirts for each member of the family, but then again I'm unsure.

Input is welcome.

Thank you,

It's a good day if I'm looking down at the grass and not up at the roots.

I guess it would depend on what type of beach you were shooting them at?

A warm tropical beach would lend itself to having folks dressed appropriately to the surrounding of the climate and to how busy or secluded the beach was.

A more northern beach might well suit folks dressing as you described depending on their age and the degree of sophistication you wanted to present them in.

Lots of variables! ;)

Cheers! :)

My family and I had beach shots taken 2 years ago and we wore jeans (or jean capris) and white tops/shirts. My daughter wore a white cotton dress. They turned out really good. I think any light color (like khakis and a light blue shirt) would look good. I don't like crazy wild prints, though...it seems to take away from the people and the pretty scenery!

HTH's!!!

Thank you for the feedback.
Khakis and white shirts are nice, and do you think throwing some props to add color, such as one colored umbrellas.

How does that sound?

I actually have done a lot of research on this as I live close to lots of beaches and do quite a few beach shoots during the warmer months. Here's some examples that I hope will help you decide. (sorry they're crappy quality but they're PrntScrn'd from my website as I don't have the orig files here with me at work)

Here's one where they wore whatever...

They're not the best images but I hope they help you decide.

Didn't know that rule... Is that for modesty or uniformity?

Thank you for sharing the pictures with us. I appreciate it. It gives me an idea of what to have them wear.

Maybe have them take the family pics and then have some fun bringing in the props, umbrellas and towels. Trying to get creative and thinking outside the box.

My girlfriend worked in a beach photography place and they liked typically would ask everyone to where white or black. It works with the photos.

I think it would depend on the timiing of your shots? Early morning? Full harsh sun? Late evening? White is a tough one with full sun from what I have seen...I like the idea of props and having fun.....look forward to your next post.

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.
