Just some recent shots taken at or near Palm Springs

Some helpers sitting in the North Palm Springs station.

This could have been a great shot if the eastbound hadn't come along at just the wrong time. I would have gotten the approaching train with great, late afternoon light. Another train came along a little later, and the same thing happened. It just wasn't my day.

Dust is always present, especially in the Pass.

This is where I was shooting. What you can't really see is the tracks make an S-bend here, and if you can catch trains coming uphill at just the right time, it can make for some interesting shots.

This is another version of a similar shot I posted a while back. I call it 'Patience.' I had very little of that today.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I like the second shot...mainly because I never see any double stacks.

I like the 3rd one, there is an eerie "twilight zone" feeling to it.

Nice shots! I have to share the comments of my 5 & 7 year olds though...

My 5 yr old said "I like that first one Mommy, it's really cool looking!"

My 7 year old said "I like the first one because it has two engines and the neat sky."

Nice work, Tom. I like the second shot for its composition, lighting, and "outside-of-the-box" look. You timed the lead unit and opposing double-stacks so that sunlight fell nicely on the unit. I like those types of looks; it brings creativity to the genre, as opposed to the endless three-quarters shots found on another website.

On the third shot, I agree with Poppie - I like the eerie quality of it. I kinda get the visual of a thriller movie - hot desert, blowing sand, "middle-of-nowhere" situation (hard to describe the feeling).

Of course, I know it was quite warm and windy in SoCal lately. ;)

Thanks for sharing.

I really like them all. Anyone that can make a set of empty tracks look interesting has mastered the art of train photography.

No surprise that my favorite is #1? Good shots! Interesting possibilities in #3, too.
The 2nd one would rock if the other train was a bit blurred?

I just love shots one and four. Great lighting. Very nicely done. After seeing these photos. Now you got me wanting to head over to Willett,Iowa. That is an Awesome Railfan location on the Union Pacific. Later.
