Going out to buy a 40D with the 28-135mm kit lens tomorrow.

My old 18-55mm EF-S kit lens from my 300D is supposed to work on the 40D, correct? I just want it for the possible wider angle shots. I am not opposed to stepping back, but I do lots of indoor work that some times limits my space. Which is why I want a better body and lens, since I consistently seem to find low light.
Would it be better to just sell the 300D with the kit lens and put that towards a 17-85mm lens? I think them together sell for about $300 used.

Random notes: I had considered the 5D, but it was much more for a Digic II gear.(Spending less for a 40D with Digic III makes sense to me.) I hate the LCD "status" screen on the XTi/400D and would give that model away after using it for too long.

yes you can use it on your new camera. now I don't think it'll make a bid diference if you sell the body alone. If you have work to do while selling the cam keep the kit lens. You won't get a whole lot for it and you can keep using it while you get a better lens, just use what you get from the camera body to put towars the new glass. When you get it, just sell the kit if you want or keep it as a backup.

If you want something moderatly wide, and in class with your telephoto lens, you should save up for the EF-S 17-55 mm f/2.8 IS USM. Build quality matches the 40D camera body, image quality matches any L-lens.
Fits well on the 40D body too, especially when the grip is under the camera.

It took me four years to save up for the new camera. :o That would be a very expensive lens to save up for as well! I will definitely keep it in mind since I am starting to get paid for doing this now.
