I have the 600L non IS which I think weighs about 14 or 15 pounds. That is a heavy lens!! I have just ordered the 500 4L IS and am looking forward to using it. It should feel like a feather by comparison.

I have the 600 non IS. I often use it on my Gitzo carbon monopod with a Gitzo offset ball head. I have a small pad of foam where the rig rests on my shoulder while moving about. I also carry my 20d and 100 to 400 0n my other shoulder for the quick shots. I am far from a muscle man,
.155 lbs, 5` 10". I`m 61 and am out in the bush every chance i get after work. Yes it is heavy, but if you manage it properly, you can move about very well indeed. Don`t get me wrong, i don`t do mountain climbing with it, LOL. I wanted the extra reach, for that i pay a price !

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. However I didn't appreciate some of the snarkiness. I was just asking a simple question.

Sorry I asked. :o
