For new glass!!! She said that I could spend about a 1/3 of our tax return on camera equipment... Hence this thread is born... I shoot mostly portraitures, weddings, engagement sessions with a mixture of some concert events and indoor sports (basketball)... You can see my current glass lineup below... The "allowance" is roughly $1100 and I would like to add one of the scenarios below:

Scenario #1:
- Sigma 30 1.4 EX HSM
- Canon 85 1.8 USM or 100 2.0 USM

Scenario #2:
Canon 135 2.0L USM

Scenario #3:
Canon 300 4.0L IS USM

Scenario #3 would be nice, but that means I would cough up the extra dough out of my pockets... Something I really would not like to do, but somewhat considering as a third alternative... The other two scenarios are more in my budget... Scenario #1 gives me the "cheapo" version of the "Holy Trinity of Primes", but #2 puts a wonderful "L" class portraiture lens in my inventory... Like I said, I mainly shoot portraitures, weddings, and engagement sessions... Which scenario would you choose!!! HELP POTN!!! I appreciate all your comments, concerns, and inputs...

- airbutchie

I guess I'm doing it wrong by not asking my wife if it's ok before I purchase a new lens... ;)

Option 3. You can get it cheaper used.
The sale's pending on this whole kit, but if it falls through the 300 F4 IS is $900

Here's one for $875

As I've said in other posts: My wife wouldn't know one L from another. They all look the same to her. She might strangle me if she knew what my glass collection is worth :D

^ I hear ya on that one... Unfortunately, my wife does know about the cost of the "white" glass and the ones that have the "red" lines in the front element... Tisk tisk... Nonetheless, I appreciate everyone's input...

Anyone else? Thanks in advance...

From what you said you're shooting, scenario #1.

Well, you already have a good mix of lenses in your bag right now. You have the excellent 70-200 2.8 IS, which is already a great portrait lens. While the 85mm and 135mm are great lenses, they do overlap your 70-200. Also, the 300mm f/4.0 is a great lens as well, but the 1.4x TC with your 70-200 gives you a 280mm f/4.0 with little to no image loss, so the 300 f/4.0 seems a little redundant with your 70-200 and 1.4x tc

What I would suggest is to upgrade your camera to a 40D, or upgrade the Tammy to a 17-55, 24-70, or 24-105L. You could then sell the Tammy or XTi, and pick up another little toy, such as a 580EX II (which you don't currently have)

My pic would go to the 135. It's an awesome lens for everything you shoot and will absolutley serve you well. It's light, compact and has absolutely stunning IQ wide open. It's great to mount on a second body during weddings or portrait sessions. My second pic would go to the 300 but it's less suited to what you intend to shoot IMO.

Again, thanks everyone for your input and comments... Looking at the damn 135L thread really put this decision to the test... I'd say scenario #1 & #2 are dead even... Geez-Louise!!! I'm gonna have to let this simmer a bit more to see where it goes...
