have been seing lots of screaming accolades for the new nikon zoom and frankly some reviews appear to put the canon to shame
e.g.
on FM (external link)
on -16:9.net (external link)

However looking at these 'ere MTF doobies I can't see that the Canon comes off worse but then I am no expert reading MTF charts

yeah yeah I know it's theoretical heretical schmetical but humour me.. (everyone else does:lol:)

Sure the Canon may not be all that spiffing wide open as the Nikon appears to be, but by f8 it's totally there - isn't it?

In case the pics don't attach:
Nikon Japanese MTFs (external link)
Nikon14-24 f2.8zoom (external link)
Canon 14mk2 (external link)

Nikon first (grey) then canon (White)
anyone got more MTFs for the Nikon?

What does it all mean?
[where's Lester when you want him?;-)a]

The Canon will fit my EOS bodies without an adapter, and retain AF.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

yeah that goes without saying

That's not the question. The question is , according to the MTFs and there may be others that peeps can dig up, to my very untrained eye the canon seems to hold up as well as the nikon, by f8 ( which is fine as I would expect to stop it down anyhoo, I'd never shoot 14mm at 2.8m well not often)

One other thing, is you can't directly compare MTF between manufacturers, as they have different testing methods and such.
