We just got a new laptop to go roaming with, and it has Vista Home premium.

On our XP machine we have a Microsoft-provided utility that allows Canon cr2 files to be viewed with Explorer (in thumbnails) or in Picture and Fax Viewer, including zoom capabilities.

Is there anything similar we can do for Vista? Or are we doomed to opening Photoshop just to scan through pictures?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Windows Photo Gallery will open raw files if you download the updates from Canon.

Have you tried the codec directly from Canon?

Link (external link)

Click that link, then choose Vista as your OS and it'll show the Codec as the first option to download.

Good to hear. Next suggestion was going to be 'go back to XP'. Actually, it still is. :))

Actually my suggestion would have been "Return it and buy a Mac" :) Not sure if that would have helped the original problem, but it would help all the others down the road :)

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
