I would appreciate any suggestions regarding quality and price of a wide angle and macro lens for my D20.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat...............as far as wide goes I would really like to see some feedback on the 10 - 22 as soon as it comes out. Macro, I'm not sure but maybe the 50mm version.

There are a couple of very nice wide angle possibilities for the 20D, ie the EFS 17-85mm f4-5.6; the 35mm 1.4 L USM and the 17-40mm f4 L USM. The first one is a very nice 'standard' lens for the 20D and very sharp and less expensive than the rest. Ignore all the rubbish that have been written about that lens - it is very, very nice.

The best macro lens is the Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens - it becomes a 160mm macro lens with the 20D and also a fantastic portrait lens.

The 10-22mm is already out. I saw the 20D and the two new EF-S lenses (the 17-85 IS and the 10-22) in a shop today.

And I don't even live in the USA, where things always happen before they do in Europe..... 8)

Search the forums..... questions about which lenses to get are the most frequently asked questions, and both wide angle and macro lenses have been discussed many times before.

I have the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens - it's wonderful piece of equipment. This lens is no softer than the (highly regarded) 70-200 f/2.8L zoom, here is a sample :

Additional pictures can be found here - http://www.pbase.com/olegis/ein_hemed (external link) (not all of them are actual macro shots).

Best wishes,
Oleg.

If you dont mind a wide angle prime, and want to save alot of money, check out the Tokina 17mm F3.5 ATX Pro.
I just bought one for $360US, and it's built as well as a Canon L lens, comes with a 3 year warranty, is about as sharp as the Canon 17-40L, and has better flare resistance and lower distortion.
It's a very nice lens!

If you dont mind spending more money, the Canon 17-40L, and Sigma 15-30 EX lenses are excellent pieces of glass.
