I dont think that lense is on the compatability list for the eos 1.4 converter.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

The 24-70 L will not work with either of Canon's TCs. Both of them have front elements that project into the body of the lens, and the 24-70 L has glass all the way to the back end of the lens body.

I don't have a 10D, but I do have the lens, and it is a fine piece of glass. Downsides? It is big and heavy. You can forget about using the built-in flash on the 10D with it.

Have Fun,

Rick

The 10D and 24-70 f/2.8 is a perfect portrait combination. The lens is a bit heavy but its results are well worth it. It's one of the best and most used L lenses that Canon makes.

There are some examples here:

The 28-135 IS has a 72mm filter size, and the 24-70 has a 77mm. That may not seem like much, but it really is, and it is almost one pound heavier. I don't know about any other brand of TC.

There is no question that the 24-70 L is a great lens. I use it when I need the extra speed that I can't get with my 17-85 IS. It performs very, very, well. But size and weight play a part in not using it as my default lens.

Have Fun,

Rick

The 24-70 is a fine piece of glass, and putting that 2x TX on it means you will loose a LOT of quality (and I mean a LOT).

Do you not have a longer zoom lens to use instead?

If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.

I have the 10D and 24-70 2.8L and it's a great combination. Keep in mind that weight and size is more subjective to each person and may not be an issue to you. I don't find the size or weight a problem at all and I've used it all day in the field and on hikes up and down trails in the Cascade shooting waterfalls (as well as 30 pounds of other camera equipment).

For quality though, it is an outstanding lens. I've used it for portraits as well as scenic outdoors. It's on my camera the most although I'd say the 70-200 2.8L IS is on there almost as much.

The only nit I have sometimes is because of it's width. Although it will fit just fine in the 70-200 (or 100-400) lens bag, which I carry on my belt and use to hold the lenses as I switch them back and forth.

It's a great lens. I can't speak about the teleconverts though as I don't have any.

Mike
