I placed and order with Adorama last week and included two of the 8 GB Extreme III CF cards. The next day (Friday) I received an e-mail to advise that they were out of stock and on back order. Sunday evening they e-mailed to advise that the order would be shipped on Monday without the memory cards. I discussed this with a sales rep at Adorama and he advised that they have no time line for receipt of new stock and that there is a rumour going around that SanDisk is discontinuing this line.

That jives with the note on the B&H webiste when I look at these cards there.

SanDisk still lists these cards on their website and has them for sale. I haven't called them to find out if they actually have them in stock, ready to ship.

Does anyone have further information about what is going on? I have been very pleased with my Extreme III cards but I do not have any 8 GB cards. Is there something I should know? I think some of the bigger stores here in Ontario still have them for sale.

As of today just about all the major online retailers have them in stock.

Go to newegg and order the Transcend 8gig 266x for $99 plus $3 shipping. I got two last week.

edit just saw you're Canada, not sure if it's worth it to you.

Or, the 133x for $37. I just bought me one. I'm sure the 266x is a bit faster, but I doubt I'll notice the difference.

I have been checking the B&H and Adorama websites frequently this past week to see what's happening with the Extreme III 8 gb CF cards. At Adorama they now have this card at $145.99; at B&H it is $124.95.

Disregading the rebates that were avaialble, this memory card was under $100 at both stores just a week or so ago.

What's up with this?

Supply and demand I suppose. You'd be better off getting two 4 gig cards for around$59.95 (external link) using PriceGrabber.

I local salvage company here where I live got in a big electronics store stock and I found several of the Extreme III CF 4 and 8 gig cards marked $84.95 and $148.95 less 30% off at the register. Still kinda high pricing for a salvage company and the cards aren't even in their blister packs.

I bought two of them at Adorama about a month ago for 99.95 each making them only $50 each with the rebate - I guess I got in in the nick of time... Now the rebate hassle tango with Young America!

The sage continues; I decided to try a Canadian store for a couple of 8gb Extreme III cards. The Camera Store in Calgary had them on their website for $128.39 each. I placed the order and a day later received an e-mail to advise that they are out of stock but are expected in the first week or two of April; did I want to have them hold the order or cancel. I decided to keep the order open and see what happens. I am curious to see if they can deliver at the same price as it seems the prices have jumped dramatically at B&H and Adorama for the new stock.

SandIsk is discounting the original Extreme III cards rated at 20MB/s and releasing the new ones, Extreme III with new labeling rated at 30MB/s. That why the pricing is higher art some places right now.
