I got this for my 400D. Just as good as the Canon version in my opinion, it is built quite well. And for the price, it is a good pick up.

That looks just like my original Canon grip for my 400D. I've seen some very poorly made ones but that looks good. Incidentally I got mine off ebay as a used item in immaculate condition with two new batteries for about £50. Came with box etc. Best bit of accessory I have bought for my camera.

As far as grips go I would always suggest buying the Canon original as it is so well built, sturdy and just feels right. Some I tried and looked at were really of poor quality.

Did you ever receive this grip?

I've sent this text the the above quoted user, but thought for the benefit of all reading the thread, i would post it here.
RE: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11228 (external link)

i would have to say it works for me very similarly to the existing review at:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11228 (external link)

Regarding something that is different from the review there, is that on my 400D - the on-grip 'timed/programmed shutter release' seems to cause the camera to take images in continuous mode instead of '1 shot' mode. so for every 'run through' say you want it to capture 1 image every 1 minute and to do that 2 times (resulting in 2 images 2 minutes apart), i found it would capture at 3.5 fps for the duration of the first 1 minute interval and then repeat the process for the number of repetitions specified...resulting in 180+ shutter actuations
anyway, i don't use that feature, maybe it only works well on the 350D...

FEEL:
Good solid grip, hangs on to camera very well (better quality than i was expecting for a non-canon piece), - no motion once you've done up the thumb screw. Good smooth extension of existing grip, your fingers can't really feel where the body finishes and the grip begins (in landscape orientation)
Features dual Li-Ion cartridge+6AA cartridge - gold plated contacts, Shutter, Dial, * and Focal point selection + AV/ EV control + extras

Weight:
This grip does make the camera noticably heavier even without a Li-Ion battery in it (yes, you can run the camera with grip and only 1 lithium battery installed) but with 1 or 2 batteries, the combined weight seems to balance out longer lenses nicely for hand held work.

EXTRAS:
The LCD screen is for reporting information regarding the grips status (if you're running a program of repeating shots for example) or otherwise displays the current day, time and date (as such, it has a calendar built in).
There is a sturdy wrist strap attachment underdeath that is inset, but the camera won't sit flat (on the bottom of the grip) if you have a strap connected there.

any further questions can be answered here by request.
