After 2 days and 2 nights of use from this camera I have enjoyed it immensely.

This camera provides features such as a very fast zooming 12X lens, rotating LCD screen, hot shoe, Optical IS, close macro, and a fast 2.7-3.5 lens for a low price. I got mine for $350 with instant rebate from circuit city.

This camera is very easy camera to use, every button has its place. (accept for the print button) The menus are easy to navigate and nothing is hidden.

Things just make sense when using this camera.

some gripes about the S5 IS
~ISO 800 and above are really bad. I am not comparing it to my 5D but common, the Fuji F31 and F31 still blows the S5 away and it is older technology.

~The lens cap comes off too easily, we all know it. It "has to" to not strip the little nylon gears that make the lens come out. I'm sure there is another way.

~No RAW. Many want it, Sx has never had it. How else would a G series be an upgrade?

~IS does not work as well as it I would have thought it would. Nothing like an EF or EF-S lens... nothing at all. I really can not tell much difference at all. Should I take mine back??? Maybe it has a defect?

~no wireless remote capability... I don't get it.

What I LOVE about the powershot S5 IS

~36-432mm (FF equivalent) 2.7-3.5! Wow I wish I had a lens for my DSLR like that!

~Very easy to use, the menus just flow and its easy to find everything.

~Zoom while you are making a video. This comes in very handy, as well as the stereo mic.

~hot shoe! Nuf said.

~Takes AA batteries! Some people may not like this feature, but I enjoy having the opportunity to get batteries anywhere. And you can always buy rechargeable ones.

~Rotating LCD. I did not think I was missing this feature until I used it. It comes in very handy sometimes and you can also rotate it 180 to protect the screen.

I just noticed that my multi card reader that I use for my CF does not have SD (weird)

So pics soon.

I have an S3is and I always found the cheesy little soft lens cap to be junk. I'm assuming it's the same on an S5.

The fix is to buy an extension tube with a threaded end. It fits over the lens and the lens extends inside the tube. With this you can attach accessory lenses, UV or polarizing filters and best of all, a real lens cap. They are a great investment.

When you mention all the things that are not perfect about the S5, you must remember all the great features you did get for such a tiny amount of money. You just can't get everything for $350.00.

I purchased one of these for my S2 when I bought it three years ago. I have lesses and filters for it, but the tube stays there 7 and 24, for protection, something more to hold to, and of course, so I can use a regular snap-on lens cap.

Does anyone know of any lens that I could put on the end of the camera.

^ What kind of "lens" are you looking for? you first need an adapter to take a "lens" for the S5. IMO the best adapter is the Lensmate one. I have a 52mm and a 58mm Lesnsmate adapter. I also have a Raynox 2020Pro Tele-Convertor .

http://www.lensmateonline.com/ (external link) (best place to look for that "lens")
