Guys

I am going on holiday in May and stopping off in Hong Kong as my first stop.

Has anyone any idea how much one can buy a Canon 5D for in a reputible store and what warranties are available (i.e. international??)

Thanks

Man Shing or Wing Shing in Mong Kok, Kowloon. They have it for around 15000 HK dollars. No warranty is available for international. That is the cheapest price around. (im in hong kong now :p)

also, the charger may be a problem - it uses the asia AC plug, which might be different from yours, you might have to use it via an adapter, or buy another one.

I was in Hong Kong, and I can assure you that the prices are higher there than in US in most cases. Even when they are a little less, why put yourself with the risk of repair and return issues?

HK uses the same charger plug as the UK so there are no problems there. 240v.

Expect prices around 14 500HKD (just under 1000GBP) for body only. Warranty for the body is HK only.

If you want the kit which comes with the 24-105lens, that about 22 000 HKD. International warranty for the lens.

Yeah I was thinkin the charger should be OK!

Is there any reason why Canon dont do international warranty for bodies if they do it for the lens!!??

is fairly accurate (at least for stuff I have bought) price list for camera gear.

also try the all the shops in Central on Stanley Street and Hing Lee Camera on Lyndhurst Terrace. Got my 40D and several lenses there. Nice people. No hard sale.

Good luck

Kinefoto is the only place worth buying from on Stanley Street central.

Wing Shing (and Man Shing - same shop really). Are OK too.

Citicall can be alright at times (a bit of a bigger chain store).
