Written to my MP, but as it's George Galloway, I'm not expecting much, he's not exactly got the best record of turning up and being involved in parliament. ;)

On the "They work for you" website you can see the record of each MP and my local one by the postcode has apparently never signed an EDM.

I know this may be naive on my part but rather write via the website as its unsecure for (not SSL forms) private data I need to check the correct snail mail address to write to him?

:)

I noticed my local chappy hadnt signed and wondered if it might be worth dropping him a line to sign , when I looked into it he has only ever signed 1 EDM , hmm , it crossed my mind that he might be on of the lazy ones but apparently hardly and EDMs actually get debated in the house and they are only really used to indicate a persons stance on a subject . With that in mind is there any point ?

It's not about preventing terrorism, it's about making the public feel guilty for the forces the government cannot control.

I'll drop the MP a line.

As draconian as this might seem to people, this is something that needs to be done to combat terrorism.

I don't seem to recall a mad rush to remove personal freedoms during the IRA (etc) campaigns of the 70's/80's & early 90's.

I'm sure anyone with half an ounce of intelligence could plan an attack with a map and a look at Google Earth rather than walking around with a camera

I've said that so many times mate. It angers me that people say "this is different" regarding our new threats.

I've said that so many times mate. It angers me that people say "this is different" regarding our new threats.

The whole approach to personal freedom and how "we" expect or accept the 'authorities' to behave has changed.

In the 70's I worked in the Health Service and we had a bomb scare at the hospital - it was deemed a credible threat and the whole of our section/floor was evacuated with other actions for the different areas - after about an hour of standing around my colleagues and I were allowed back in on the premise that the police could find nothing and if there was anything out of the ordinary "we" were more likely to spot it....there were no dissenters because we all (pathology techs) had jobs to do including bloodbank work for the operations etc.

During the same period I was stopped on the way to work on a Sunday morning driving along the Embankment. I was simply flagged down by two PCs and asked about my movements & reason for driving across London.

These days the two above situations I surmise would be handled somewhat differently???

As for the EDM, it as I read is about educating the Police officers as to what they can & cannot do when in a situation where photographers are seen to be behaving oh so suspciously  the worry is the creeping erosion of what we in the UK take for granted of our civil liberties in the name of "protecting us".

I've just received a letter from my MP confirming that he has signed EDM 1155.
He further states that "people who take photographs in public places should not be made to feel like criminals".

I guess the more people that actually do contact their MP the better. It won't work miracles but it certainly can't hurt anything.

My MP basically thought it was a fuss over nothing and she didn't think it was worth worrying about.
