Heya. just wondering...
does anyone know if plugging in a flash via AC adapter rather than using nimh batteries will make it recycle faster?

I've just been on the fence whether to get the AC adapter or not. I've just been using AA's in my 622 and it works well, but would like to know if any speed is to be gained by plugging it into a wall.

thanks!

Web search found information that AC adapter recharges in 19 sec. (vs. battery 13 sec.) Better would be use of rechargeables (3 sec), rather than alkaline (13 sec). Best would be 510v optional pack (1sec)

The web search is your friend, more people should try it!

No specific info on the AC adapter for the 622.

But, if the Sunpak AC adapter for the 622 is anything like the AC adapter for the 383/433/422, it takes forever (that 19 seconds quoted above seems about right for the 383 version).

Rechargeable NiMH are much faster in the Sunpak 383/433D/422

Enjoy! Lon

Wow, 19 seconds. When you are waiting for a flash to cycle that is an eternity.

Not an atypical result when using AC to power flash units which are primarily intended to by driven by battery power!

I just checked my Metz 45CL specs and its battery time is 3 sec. and AC time is 18 sec.

I can remember an AC powered flash I had years ago but can't bring up the name. It was obviously not a truly memorable unit. Not to mention the limit of the cord. Kind of like shooting movies in the 60s with a big light bar and extension cord....

Thanks Lon.

I just got my 383 (my first flash ever) and it takes forever to recycle... I was just thinking 'this can't be right?'

I'm just using some standard alkaline batts, I need to get some NiMH ASAP it looks like!
