Holy low light Bat-Man, it's the Gutter Twins. Despite getting to shoot one of my favorite performers, I was about ready to chuck my camera out the car window after this one...

The Gutter Twins, fronted by Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan, are essentially the same band as the Twilight Singers with a little more contribution from Mark Lanegan. They play Gutter Twins songs as well as Twilight Singers and Lanegan songs. Dulli is probably best known as the front man for the Afghan Whigs, while Mark was the singer for the Screaming Trees in the 90's and has since performed with Queens of the Stone Age, Soulsavers and Isobel Campbell among others in addition to his solo stuff.

More here (external link).

Well...I tried. Critique and/or consolation welcome. They are a bit soft (I know). AF was difficult and I was using pretty abysmal shutter speeds.

I really should have...a 5D and an 85 1.2 would have been about the ideal combination. I've actually thought about buying a 50 1.2 after this show...still kind of holding out and saving my pennies for that fabled 5DII though.

They turned the lights down pretty low, and there was no light directly on Lanegan. The light on Mark was low enough that the 85 1.8 and 135L were hunting pretty bad. The one thing that helps a little is that Mark doesn't move at all during the set.
One funny thing that happened was right before the show some guy came over and set a stool right in front of me...I'm like, damn, they must really hate photographers, but Greg did eventually come over and sit right in front of me...unfortunately there was absolutely no light at that part of the stage, so I didn't get a shot of it...unlike everyone in the crowd with a p&s.

well i think it's too late to rent a 35L but i will see what i get to work w/ next week.

i really hate shooting shows w/ no barrier (which unfortunately for me, is 95% of my shoots).

Excellent job for no light. I find the B&W and graininess to be kind of appealing.

:D...well that is good to know.

I was just staring at my histogram (exposure all the way to the left) wondering if I would get anything at all. I'm just glad it's over...what a nightmare...well, the show was good at least.

I prefer #8... (Though, I'd crop it above the light gray, above the elbow, and make it a horizontal.)

Hmm and all that time, I thought he was looking at me!

Moment of the evening - I looked up at you and smiled, and you said, "Babe can you stop dancing around?! I'm trying to take pictures."

Looking at the EXIF, you did quite okay.
#6 is a very nice shot in whatever circumstances :)
