Hmmm Have to convince my wife to let me do that in our downstairs bonus room, setup a hanging pipe to put backdrops on. We have some black fabric, I need see if I can get some cheap stuff in other colors ...

Then I just need lights...
I have a couple of old lamps,
will CFL's provide a decent color ?

I think you may have to adjust white balance for CFL's. Also, I think you'll probably have to have a few bulbs to compensate the "wavelength issue" inherent with fluorescent bulbs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. :o

Stopped at Walmart today and picked up a White Twin size bedsheet to use as a floor drop. I may add two extra lanterns for a little extra light and call my mini studio complete. Those cheap work lanterns work really really well and are about the most portable thing you can think of. The ones I got have feet on them so they can be adjusted to point where you want them.

i'll bet a couple of inexpensive light stands would work - drill holes in you PVC pipe and drop it onto the light stands.

Concerning white balance - get a gray card and shoot a custom white balance. It will save you a ton of time in post processing. AWB is NOT always good enough.

I tried painter's tape, but it didn't work. Kept falling down. I like the idea of the hooks or the shower rod though.

Where's some pics of all these high tech set ups? Or better yet some pic's using them. In searching for lighting stuff, I find that most of it is pretty cheap. I posted in a another post that if you take some of those aluminum heat lights and wire in a 2x2 box with a dimer switch, you could have some nice cheap spot lights. Plus add color bulbs for another demension.

I used 2 black sheets and taped down with painters tape. Lit with only a 380ex and a ghetto grid made from a $5 diffuser and straws :D

Edit: Didn't realize how old this thread was!

Those big push pins worked for me. They don't leave a very big hole.

I used this setup for a year before I got my Manfrotto brackets. Just some thumbtacks on the wall holding the paper. And roll it against the wall when you're done. Worked fine for me, just have to climb up and retack it occasionally. I use vinyl now and think that'd be even better ;)

Wow Peter! Is that the studio that you use to create all those glamor shots or do you have a bigger space as well?

lol that's it but it does extend further to the left. And beyond those doors is a large terrace where I just roll my lights out and shoot outdoor stuff ;)
