Focus Point in Full Auto?

Hi! Just loving my new 40D, but today I was frustrated. I like using the center focus point, and can select it in most modes, but I can't seem to choose my focus point in the full auto mode. Is it me, or is this function not an option in the full auto mode. I was going from sunlight to shade to indoors rapidly, so it doesn't make sense to try and use manual setting. Thanks!

Program mode! Man, a person almost has to READ THE MANUAL to get all this stuff. Sorry for the dopey question. I'm learning, slowly but surely!

As Tim Allen observed, the instruction manual is simply the manufacturer's opinion of how a tool should be used.

Deep down, you know that reading the manual is a form of cheating...

Fine, don't read your manual. That's your option... Just don't come whining here when your camera does something you don't understand... j/k  ;)
