OK, I understand how to multi-quote, but what I want to know is how do I cancel a multi-qoute if I decide not to reply to the thread after I've clicked the multi-quote button in multiple posts?

Just unclick the multi-quote button on each post you clicked. When you first click it, the button turns orange. If you unclick it, the button will revert to blue.

One problem with that... I'm trying to avoid backtracking through six, eight or ten pages of thread to deselect all the posts I clicked the button in.

Multi quotes are thread-specific. So if you go to another thread you can have another set of quotes. If you have hit multi quotes and do not want to use them in reply, you can always delete the quote blocks in post editor.

If you move to another thread and quote someone there in replying, there'll be a little line under the text box saying you have x multiquotes from outside the thread; do you want to include them or remove them. Choose "remove" and they'll be gone. Choose Include and they'll be added to the existing reply.

I've seen that... In other words, there is no real easy way to remove them?

Seems to me that one click on your next quote is fairly easy. There isn't anywhere you can bring up a whole list of your quotes and sift through them though.

What I find myself doing is coming into a thread, primarily in the gear forums, and finding, as I read, I have something offer or an answer to a question. I'll click on the multi-quote button so I can add my comments at the end of the thread. Then I find, by the time I reach the end, that other posters have already said the same thing I was going to or have already answered all the questions. At that point I don't make a reply at all but I'm left with all the multi-quotes just hanging.

So far, the only way I know to get rid of them is to go to another thread, click on the reply button, and then deselect the multi-quote from the other thread when that line under the text box comes up.

I was just hoping there was a way I could deselect multi-quotes in a thread without having to do that.

Just go ahead and quote to get to a reply and cancel it, maybe. I never remember I've multiquoted, so I just "Don't use" whenever I see the message.
