I took this a month or so ago after I dropped my daughter at school. It was early and overcast too. He was finishing up breakfast so I pulled over and shot out of my car window. Again, this was with my 70-200mm F4L IS and 1.4x TC.

I went through my Peterson Field Guide and my best guess is a Broad-Winged Hawk. Is that correct? They are very confusing.

Yep - Cooper's hawk.

Falcons and Accipiters (Sharp-shinned, Cooper's and Goshawk) are mostly bird eaters.

Buetos like Red-tailed, Red-shouldered and Broad-winged hawks usually eat mammals.
