I started sharpening my "action" style photography skills via RC cars. While I also played with my own RC, the downtime was well spent taking pictures. I have a 500GB harddrive full of just RC pics. If you haven't had the chance to do so, I highly recommend shooting RC if possible. If you can pan RC, you can shoot anything. These 1/8th scale buggies will reach their peak top speed in 2-3 seconds....and that is in the dirt.

The majority of the shots were with a 300D and a Sigma 70-300 Macro f4-5.6, while the rest were taken with the 30D and either 70-200L f4, or 100-400L f4-5.6....

These are great shots! I´ve done RC shooting also and know how difficult
it can be. If these are not cropped pics, you did really great job.

Whoever car that is in the 3rd shot really needs to glue his tires.

Shots look great. They show lots of action.

These are fantastic! If it were all alone, and no one mentioned R/C, I'd have had had to look very hard to see that #2 wasn't full scale. These have a really aggressive feel to them. Well Done.

All great shots, #2, #5 and #7 stand out for me though, have tried a few RC cars but not had a proper go at it.

Ryan

They're good. I've tried shooting RC cars and it's a lot harder than you'd imagine. I think you did well!

Cheers

Very little cropping, just a resize and a slight bit of contrast to compensate for the dusty environment.

The tires are really soft, but the tires you see seperating from teh wheel are just glued improperly. I took that shot down to that driver and showed him.....you definately couldn't see it that clearly with the naked eye.

Thanks! Thats what I believe everyones goal would be in a shoot like this.....so I guess that means I somewhat succeeded. :)

Off the shelf STOCK truck kit + over twice the horsepower it was setup for (~3hp now) = pizza cutter tires. There is alot that needs to be changed to accomodate the double in HP, but the main thing that causes that is the wrong differential fluid. These RC's use a differential very similar to that in a 1:1 vehicle. A much thicker diff. fluid would resolve this problem.
