One from today ... still not as sharp as I'd like (or have seen from others). Maybe I should stop drinking coffee? ;)

Nice one Carl. I wouldn't give up on the coffee. I'm convinced these smaller birds vibrate, even when standing still.

OK, were you standing on your head Carl? Almost every time I see these guys they are upside down. I almost can't recognized them right side up!

Nice capture. Looks pretty good to me.

very nice feather detail. I think it needs a wee bit more contrast, or maybe would benefit from Mitch's tutorial on channel sharpening.

I have noticed of late that the red breasted nuthatches seem to be paler than they were last Fall. Maybe getting ready for new feathers?

Glad you enjoyed it. It's still a bit brisk here so I think he was fluffing up to stay warm.

Funny! I've been testing my 100-400 on the 40D and getting the same results I had with the Rebel. It's either the lens, or me, and I'm betting on me. It's difficult to get good shutter speed in this grey winter light!

Thanks Ed. It was one of the sharper ones I got while standing on my head. ;-)a

Thanks Nancy. I thought he looked a little paler too, maybe he's a she? I also noticed some other recent posts that looked pale.

If it stops snowing today I'll go out and see if I can get another.
