Hi there!

I am very honored that I have been asked to do a set of maternity pictures in about 3 weeks. My subject will be just over 8 months along and her husband will be present for the pictures as well. I think I would like to do about 75% couples pictures and 25% of just the mother to be.

Most of my shots will be indoors in my studio but if the temperature cooperates we might head outside for the power hour. (Depending on how the mommy to be is feeling)

I would love to hear from some of you who have done these pictures any advice you might have. Also, if you have done these pictures I would love to see some of your shots if you are interested in sharing.

Thank you so much in advance!

mrsblondie

Hey mrsblondie... check out this post or my blog (external link) for some ideas. I don't have the husband in the photos as he was away that weekend but maybe it'll give you some ideas for the mommy photos!

Nice pictures. Not to sound rude, but are you going to photoshop those stretchmarks out? They're kind of distracting.

You can check out my site and my blog and they both have plenty of maternity photos on them.
I agree about stretch marks.. I would never leave them in..I guess I suppose I would if a woman asked me to, but I've yet to find one who does.

Brandi just saw some of your pix on your website, they are absolutely gorgeous. I really liked the font in your business name, what font did you use? Would like to use it for my business cards. I'm just starting out. THANK YOU!

I wouldnt edit the stretch marks. That's part of pregnancy and makes the picture real. I was starting to wonder if all the other women I've seen in pregnancy shoots were human or not. I understand they're not very "appealing" but that's part of having a baby for women... JMO

Women can get along in a pregnancy without any stretch marks. If you check out the links in my earlier reply above, my friend Clare is a great example of how it is possible. There was no PS'ing done on her belly. It's all about finding a great belly butter! :)

I know they can... but I'm saying not every woman can. and every pregnancy photo shoot I've seen they don't have stretch marks or have been edited. I went almost my entire pregnancy without any until my last 2 weeks  I'm just saying not every woman would want them to be edited out b/c it is part of their pregnancy. Some might though... I think that's up to the customer not just b/c their "distracting"

lol.....they are distracting meaning it draws your eyes to her belly? i think that's the whole point of maternity photos hee hee.

Anyways most of my clients want them really softened, but not completely gone. It's all about choice I think. the ones I posted above are just proofs. I don't do a lot of editing unless they buy the photo.

Well it is great if you personally are okay with stretch marks, but I DO mention it to all my maternity clients before hand and they have all WANTED stretch marks removed, so I think for the majority of women, they don't want to see it. I wouldn't. Maybe it's vain, but it's the truth. I don't want skin so smooth that it looks abnormal, but I guess that's where good photo editing comes into play.

PS - markubig, I love the last image, it's very casual and intimate.

markubig,

great shots!! Really nice angles and ideas!

Though I have to say God (whoever that is) had nothing to with the babies...they're pregnant because they had sex!
