Hi guys

About a week ago (8 days to be exact) FIS Alpine skiing World cup ended for me. Because I was shooting FIS Ski jumping World cup finals in Planica for last 4 days (more of this in next few days, or you can already see it here (external link)), I skipped alpine skiing finals in Bormio, and alpine skiing winter ended for me with GS and SL races in Kranjska Gora.

Here are few photos from two days of racing in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Another one from Manfred Moelgg

And few from Sundays slalom race:

Third placed after first run, Ivica Kostelic of Croatia skiing in first run of men slalom World Cup race in Kranjska Gora

Winner Manfred Moelgg of Italy skiing in second run of men slalom

Jean-Baptiste Grange of France skiing in second run of men slalom

Fourth placed Jean-Baptiste Grange of France on start of second run of men slalom

One day, I will try to collect few best shoots (at least best in my opinion) from this season of alpine skiing World cup, and I will post them here. But for now, this will do.

PS: Don't be scared to tell me my photos suck. Just please tell me why : )
For Sunday's SL race I have excuse... not enough sleep and waaaay too much beer night before ; )

Take care,
Primoz

No idea yet. First I will do as much of skiing myself, before snow will finally be gone. When shooting skiing, you still can't ski yourself... even if you go to course with skis. I had helluva lot of snow days, but only about 20 real skiing days this winter. So it's just not same as when you go out with skis but without camera. So next 2 or 3 weeks are basically reserved for skiing instead of shooting skiing :)
Ok I will still shoot few hockey, basketball and handball matches in between, but that's about it. After that there's quite lot of happening during summer too. From cycling to football (or soccer for US members), and everything between of course :) So it will be a bit less busy, but it's still enough of stuff to shoot :)

Nice variation of images:) I really like the angle of #1 and also the composition of #2. The gate (is that what it's called?) frames the skier nicely. Quite like #4 as well.

That first photo of Moelgg - I don't believe I've ever seen a photo with the gate bent just so, like it's hugging his body. There's something intimate about that, which contrasts with the cold clinical lack of facial expression (and eyes hidden behind goggles) and the surgical way he's slicing up the hill. Lots of conflict. Makes me look at it again, and again.

2nd photo, Rajala - is he going to make the next gate? His facial expression says ... maybe. Tension and fear.

4th photo, Sandell - foreshadowing; the violence that has just taken place at the blue gate now about to shatter the serenity of the red gate. And the strange geometry of the gates, the skier, and the course spray-painted on the snow.

Great stuff.

There really is not that much to blame about your photos.
I always enjoy seeing them. Timing, colors, framing and
exposure are all spot on for my taste. What lens are you
using to shoot these?

All these were done with 300/2.8. For slalom and GS I hate dragging up to hill anything longer and heavier, since it's quite easy to find position where 300mm does job good enough :)

PS: Title of thread is completely wrong :) Ski jumping WC finals will be in different thread, and I hope it's clear from photos, this has nothing to do with ski jumping :)
