Hi All,

I have just landed a new job which will send me to various parts of India for a week (or two) a few times per year. Although it's a business trip I would still like to make the most of it and take some shots of the local area etc.

Out of everything in my signature what do you think I should take? If I had my way I would take the lot:D, but I don't think it would impress my new boss!

Thanks for any help

Alex

With your gear I would take the 40d, the 17-85 and the 70-200. I probably would leave the tripods and flash at home. If you don't want to scare your boss, leave the 400 at home.

Boy, I'd sell the 17-85 IS and get something a bit better - Tamron 17-50/2.8 or new efs 18-55 IS. That and the 40D, 70-200 and you are set.

The 17-85 is the weakest link, i would get a potrait/landsape lens to relace it with (it came with 20d). Not sure which to get, I'd prefer it to be canon but as to what size I really don't know?

You could do it with one lens: 17-55 IS. I go to India annually and though I'm a prime guy, there is no denying the utility of the 17-55 IS. It is a superb piece of glass and will cover 85% of all your needs- if you shoot like me that is.

If you want a prime lineup I would recommend a nice normal lens like the Sigma 30mm or even the Canon 35mm. Throw in a 85/1.8 and flash and you could do it all.

Enjoy your trips- get to know the people of the country of India will overwhelm you.

40D, Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 and Canon 85mm 1.8 if it was me or you could give your 17-85mm a go. Decent lens but a bit behind the standard zoom pack IMO.

I would recommend spend a bit more money and get a point and shoot :-) It will be safer and easier to move around with. :-)

From amongst your sig-line, I'd say 17-85mm IS. It's kinda dusty in most places and difficult to get around as you may already know. Carrying an extra camera bag and and changing lenses can be a challenge. The IS should give you good range of distances and light level.

Coincidentally, I'm heaed for Delhi next week, this time around, I'm going with single lense 17-55mm this next trip. Barely wide enough for Taj and long enough for those colorful portrait shots.

Actually the suggestion about Point and Shoot's is something that I've done in the past. There were times when I just wasn't comfortable flashing the 40D around (no pun intended).

Safe travels.

Hi Alex:

Just thought I'd share some impressions from my recommended lense.

Your 17-85mm will provide similar coverage but longer, India on Single Lense.
