AWESOME...looks like Canon has fallen off the boat with giving more options on new lens or even updated ones.

I'd love to try it out, but I'll be it will be over $300. I think Sigma overprices their lenses...

same here..i am guessing $280 thats just my guess. So they can pull sales from the Canon.
I mean look at the prices of the new 150-500 OS

Frickin' Sigma. They're gonna make me broke and end my marriage...

Anyone want to buy a EF 50mm f/1.4? It's only 5 months old...

After all of your "soft" inserts and complaints, do you really think someone here is going to by your 50?

Seriously, Good for Sigma for getting on this lens. They should have done it a long time ago. I don't have much use for a 50 at this point in time, but I'm sure it'll be a winner, and win over a lot of Canon folks from their EF 50.

It was already said, but I hope there's no inherent focusing issues after calibration.. I wish I was one of the lucky ones who had a proper 30

I don't see how this lens will price much cheaper then the 30/1.4.

It's not as if the Sigma Macro Primes are any cheaper then the Canon equivalents, 100mm/2.8 for example.

Not sure what the exact point of this lens is. It's not as if the Canon version is aweful, it's one of the sharpest spoons in the drawer with FTM for $300-ish.

The only advantage I see for this lens is hood (shade) in the box. :D

Nah, the only one on these forums that I'd sell it to is my good buddy Ed Rader. I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty about that. :D

The only issues I've had with gear are my 50mm and my pop-up flash on my 30D. Sometimes it pops up, sometimes it doesn't. I'm just a couple of months out of my warranty, but emailed Canon about it in late Nov or Dec. Not sure if they'd fix it for free at this point.

I'd bet a lens that the Sigma version will be sharp and contrasty wide open. This is going to be the sway IMO.

one good thing about this lens is it is FF. if the IQ is stellar and it doesn't mis-focus is great it could compete with canon's defective 50L 1.2.

i agree that canon has really dropped the ball on the 50 mm prime, you either buy a piece of plastic junk, a $1200 lens with flawed focussing or one that doesn't have ring USM....but is priced very well.

one thing the canon 50 1.4 has going for it is i bet it will be smaller and lighter and optically it is great.

I bet it comes in just about the same or a bit more than the 30mm.

Well, the Sigma is cheaper, but it's not as capable, either (no HSM or internal focus).

Not sure what the exact point of this lens is. It's not as if the Canon version is aweful, it's one of the sharpest spoons in the drawer with FTM for $300-ish.

Hey, you're right! I happen to have one for sale. I was saving it for a good buddy, but you can have it if you want it!

The only advantage I see for this lens is hood (shade) in the box. :D

I guarantee you, this Sigma will be substantially better built than the EF 50mm f/1.4.
